View Full Version : need uro in Mass. for daughter
Unfortunately, I think my 11 year old daughter is developing ic. I am trying hard not to freak out over this. She mostly just has urgency and frequency. Some food sensitivity. I need to find a wonderful child friendly urologist for her. My uro, Dr. Sant, left town, but I am well managed on elmiron and diet, so don't have a urologist for myself. Can anyone recommend someone. Also, I won't let them do a cysto. I don't think she needs one for the diagnosis. Just an exam and a pee chart should do the trick.
Oh, I am just so upset over this. I am thinking she should get on elmiron quickly so it doesn't progress further. Do kids take elmiron?
Oh yes, we live about 20 miles north of boston.
Thanks,
Hope

You could try Dr. Susan Pursell, she has an office out of Beverly Hopital at the Parkhurst Bldg. and another office at Hunt Center next to Health South in Danvers. She specializes in pediatric and female urology and she handles all of my current IC needs.
As I can't speak for her....I don't know whether she would insist on not doing an in office cysto...but I'm sure you could talk specifics with her if you are interested. For me, she seems very receptive to all kinds of treatments -- so perhaps a carefully monitored watch over your daughter on Elmiron may be plausible.
Good Luck, let me know if you want the #
Also there is Dr. Bucchiere, very, very nice man -- but I have no idea if he deals with Children or IC (he was my on call physician YEARS ago when I wound up in the ER/hospital with a torn bladder.)

I would recommend Dr. George Klauber out of New England Medical Center. He diagnosed my IC 5 years ago when I was 16. He has stayed with me and followed all the way until now. I am in my last year of college. He is great. He actually spends time talking to you and not just about your IC. He is willing to try different treatment methods. He is just wonderful and his specialty is pediatrics. He is out of one of the same hospitals as Dr. Sant. I hope this helps.
Thank you for these two names. I will follow up on both.

I would also reccomend Dr. Klauber. My daughter now 15 was diagnosed a year ago with IC along with endometriosis, IBS with constibation and kidney disease. All of her Dr's are at floating and I can not say enough great things about them. Dr. Klauber is wonderful and kind with my daughter. He listens to her and does a great job of explaining what she is feeling and why.

And I've heard wonderful things about Dr. Paul Church.
For my Interstim: I saw Dr. David Staskin and Dr. Paula Bellin in Boston....I kept Dr. Pursell for all my other IC needs :) Dr. Staskin has since left Massachusetts and Dr. Bellin is now in the Worcester Area.
Shawna: I also have heard GREAT things about the Floating Hospital. I've never been (can adults go there?)

I contacted the IC association who gave me a list of drs in my area. Type it in the search engine. I love my urologist. Unfortunately he is in Ohio so not much help there but maybe the IC association can help you too.:cat:

I see Jan at Dr. Paul Church's office @ 319 Longwood Ave. Boston. Jan has been great and Dr. Church seems very understanding of an IC patients needs. I saw **** before and was not pleased at all. I had an adverse reaction to Elmiron(significant hair loss , overall general malaise and blurry vision) and after being on it for two months I went off it. She refused to return my calls and would not prescribe something for pain unless I went back on the elmiron. Also...The nurse at her office was extremely rude.:toosh:
My primary was even shocked at how badly **** treated me and said he would no longer refer patients to her.
