Okay, I've experimented with this one for a couple of weeks and no flare. It is safe to eat an Arby's Roast Beef sandwich plain. I checked the ingredients online and it's really basically roast beef and salt (so don't try if you're salt sensitive.)
So, HOORAY!
Hi there! I'm happy it turned out well for you! It's always nice to have a fast option for a meal when out & about. Thank you for posting, I always feel better trying something new if another IC-er has had success with it.
For those who've not tried this yet, remember everyone is different, so if you decide to experiment, plan it for a time when there's no problem if you flare. And hopefully you'll have the same results as Michelle:)

i do ok with it too. PLAIN! i was worried about nitrates. i do take off about half of the meat just to be safe!
If I remember correctly, their curly fries are also made with IC-safe ingredients. I was surprised when I looked this up.

I get a plain roast beef sandwich, waffle fries and a mug root beer when I am there. Its one of my favorite places to go. I can feel normal ordering there!

I haven't dared to try the fries yet! I think I'll try them soon :)

That's great to have a new place to try. So far I've just figured like a Wendy's for a baked potato. I don't eat out much--I actually don't like hamburgers at fast food anyway.
Are there any other sandwiches that are okay at Arby's? And you just make sure "no tomato" and "no dressing"?

I haven't gone out to eat at all in over a year. I put myself on a strict diet of gluten/wheat free, IC diet, no dairy and no yeast. So, I basically can't eat much of anything. I hate it. I also have an eating disorder and I have lost too much weight in the last year because I can't barely eat anything. I hate it!!!

Samik,
I feel much better on a diet like you are on. It's hard though. Do you go to a natural food store to look for things you can eat?? My daughter has to do a wheat-gluten free diet and I find her all kinds of things. She loves to get wheat free waffles and put soy butter and honey on it. I can also eat the soy butter in place of peanut butter. It's pretty good after you get used to it. I like to eat it on celery.
You can also get wheat free crackers and other little treats.
Another thing that I LOVE is veganaise. I get the kind that has grape seed oil in it. It will be in the refrigerated section. It's pricey, but it takes the place of mayo, and doesn't have anything in it that hurts my bladder. It tastes just like mayo without the pain!! I love to make potato salad with it. You can also get some wheat free macaroni, hard boiled eggs, organic frozen peas, and veganaise to make a really good pasta salad.
I hope this helps!!

I haven't been to Arbys in ages. Probably by the time I think about it I've already passed it on the freeway, plus when I do I'm usually with my husband and he can't stand the place!

Thank you so much for posting this! I have had zero fast food options this past year. It's hard when I'm traveling. I will give this a shot!

Also, today I went to Subway and got a 6" sub on white bread with roast beef, white American cheese, lettuce and cucumbers. Nothing else.
So far, no flare.

Michelle ~
I'm glad you have done OK with Arby's and Subway! Good for you!!
I don't like roast beef sandwiches so I won't be going to Arby's anytime soon, but I'm thrilled it didn't make you flare!
I have done ok with the tostadas, fries, shakes, bean and cheese burritos and burgers from Del Taco, the chicken pita, fries and the breakfast sandwich from Jack in the Box, a pork bowl from Chipotle, a few things from Pick Up Stix and the burges, fries and vanilla shake from In-N-Out. I'm very lucky I am not very diet sensitive.:)

Oh yeah, I eat at Subway, also. I get a turkey or roast beef on Italian bread. I get the provolone cheese, no dressing, just olive oil and spinach, cucumbers, and bell peppers. I can also do Lays original potato chips with it.

I lovve Arby's. I do great with their regular roast beef sandwich (nothing on it) and their loaded potato bites without the dipping sauce. But their curly fries send me into a plare so bad I'll be crying or days!

I love the RB sandwich at Arby's. Also the plain meat sandwiches at Subway, and plain hamburgers and the other fast food restaurants.
When I order my Subway turkey, provolone and lettuce sub, I put just a touch of olive oil on it. It is plenty for me.....you can also get baked Lays chips and now snickerdoodles there. Sighs.......why did they have to start with the snickerdoodles. My waistline doesn't need them! lol

I don't eat out as much anymore since my bladder issues I use to be the take-out queen. These are the things I've tried without a problem.
Wendy's - homestyle chicken sandwich Cheese/lettuce only(if I remember I'll bring vegenaise and Bubbie pickle to put on top),hamburger(cheese/lettuce only),fries, baked potato with butter,I get them to make me a salad with lettuce cucumber carrots and a piece of homestyle chicken on top(I usually bring my vegenaise to use as a dressing), vanilla frosty.
Mcdonals-chicken nuggets with honey,hamburger(lettuce/cheese),chicken sandwich(lettuce/cheese). Filet of fish just cheese(I will mix vegenaise with Bubbies pickle to use as tartar sauce at times). fries, vanilla cone/sundae/shake,
Arby's-Roast beef sandwich plain
Quizno's-oven roasted turkey(lettuce,cheese,mushrooms) no sauce
New York fries-fries of course
A&W-Hamburger or chicken sandwich(lettuce and cheese),fries,root beer
Wow I guess I have tried alot of places. I usually do eat out once a week on a Saturday with my boyfriend. I have tried fish and chips from several places and been ok(again I bring my vegenaise mixed with Bubbie's pickle for tartar). I have also tried burger and fries from several places without a problem. If I can I get melted cheese, fried onions/mushrooms and peppers on the burger if possible. I can eat a bucket of fried onions without a problem but not a single raw one. It sends me into a flare. I have also tried philly cheese stead from a couple of places. I just ask if they season the meat. I get it with mushrooms, cheese and fried onions. If they have red peppers then I'll add those. I have not tried green peppers yet. I hope that helps.Again much of what I'm ok with may not be ok for others please keep that in mind!

Wow, I'm learning so much from this post. I've never heard of vegenaise! I've got to find some! And I have been so scared to try any fast food, this makes me realize that there may be some options out there. Not that I want to live off the stuff, but when you're on the road, it's better than starving! Carole, I am going to give some of the items on your list a whirl.

Are there different brands of vegan mayo? You guys are talking about Vegenaise... doesn't that have problem ingredients in it? I actually hate mayo so I have no desire to find an alternative. I was just wondering. haha

I was never so happy than when I found veganaise. You can find it in your local health food store. It will be in the refrigerated section. I always buy the kind with the purple top. It is made with grape seed oil which is very good for your heart.
It tastes just like mayo, but without the icky stuff that hurts your bladder. I use it for everything. It makes the most yummy potato salad. Sometimes, I will just make that and eat on it for days because it doesn't hurt my bladder at all.
If you don't tell people what they are eating, they never know the difference. I can't recommend this product enough!!
It is pricey, I must warn you!! But it's worth every penny!!
Peace....Christie

You're right baaaby, Vegenaise does have Apple Cider vinegar, lemon juice and mustard flour in it all of which can cause flares. Those are the same things in a regular "quality" mayo (i.e. no fillers, etc.) that can cause the same problems. So, I would think if regular mayo bothers someone then this would seem to also. Obviously, you need to know what bothers your body. As Donna always says "read the labels" I know for me now that I can have a little bit of regular mayo when I'm doing really good i.e. no pain but if I'm in a flare I stay away from anything with vinegar or lemon juice even in those small amounts as it just make it worse! Again, thats just me.

I've seen other posts that ICers use vegenaise, however when I read the ingredients at the store and just now online, it has Apple Cider vinegar in it. I'm so confused, this doesn't irritate your IC?

Well, as a general rule, I can't drink apple cider vinegar, but for some reason Veganasie doesn't bother me, I don't why. I've seen a lot of people on here that can eat things that I can't eat, so I just consider it a gift to be able to enjoy something.
Just wanted to add that I used to work at Arbys when I was a teen, and they use a processed swiss cheese. I always get a regular roast beef with swiss. It comes nice and melted on there...very yummy! No condiments needed!!

I worked there too as a teen. I totally forgot it was processed! hmmm, i wonder if I can find that in the store - since I am gluten free as well

Emeraldjules I know it sounds contradictive and it is. I guess it's the same premise that if you can tolerate regular mayo you can probably tolerate Vegenaise. I only use 1-2tsp at a time and I have been fine with it. I made deviled eggs one time and put alot in it and I think that what it was that bothered my bladder that day so now I use smaller amounts. I do only buy the gold color jar. It's the organic one.

KDW or anyone- where did you find the ingredients? I went ot arbys web site and found a create your meal thing. Well I selected the curly fires and ingredients popped up beside it, but would not do anything after clicking "ingredients".....I tried several times... if you could tell me where I can find the ingredients I would appreciate it :) thanks
When you go to the Arby's website, and you got the ingredients link, you just leave your mouse over the word ingredients and a list should pop up in a separate window. It will disappear once the mouse moves off the word ingredients. There's no need to click it, just scroll on top of it. If this doesn't work for you, let me know and I'll see if I can post the ingredients on this post for curly fries.

It must be a setting on my laptop because "hovering" over the word ingredient didn't work either...lol... will have to fire the desktop up (which takes forever) and see if i can check it out that way. I love arbys curly fries, would be a nice treat :)
