Why is Elmiron so exspensive. If I am correct there is no generic form ? I maybe be wrong but thought I read that somewhere. I was so stupid my first prescription 7 months ago caused me to become ill so I tossed them. Now my URO begged me to try again and asked if I could try just 1 aday. He said he felt it would better than taking none. I agreed.I would try it. I explained that the cost of 100.00 was not going to work for me with 5 other scripts. He wrote the script so the pharmacy would give them to me for the cheaper price. I go to pick it up and its 100.00. I :yikes: had this exspression on my face lol and asked why after arguing and them refusing to call my urologist I asked for the script back and went home to call them back. The nurse said she agreed with my husband and why should I spend 100.00 I am not sure If I take it. She called them back and now I have 5 pills and 1 refill so I can try 1 a day for 10 days. Even my uro asked me when we discussing this dont you have insurance I said yah and thats what it costs me with insurance. All my other scripts put together dont costs that much

Wow that is really expensive. You're right, there is currently no generic equivalent to Elmiron. I am in California visiting my husband and trying a change of scenery since last week sucked. I am so blessed for him to be in the military since most meds are free and if I buy them off post they are $3 for generics and $9 for name brand. Jeepers--it's expensive to remain even barely pain free. I have contact now with alot of the drug vendors and reps at work so maybe I'll nose around and see if there are some inner things or gimmes with Elmiron. I will let ya know either here or I'll call you.
Hugs,

That is wonderful you can get meds for that price:) I am thankful the rest of my meds are fairly inexspensive compared to the Elmiron.:) Hope you enjoyed your trip.

Elmiron is really expensive, I know... $100 sounds like an awful lot though... was that for 1 month worth?? YIKES.
I paid $60 for 3 months worth ($20/month with my insurance). That still adds up after a while though. Add that to the fact that I have a couple asthma meds I need to fill monthly that don't come in generic... they cost $20/month too. Plus other drugs for IC... I end up spending like $150 per month on these dumb meds for IC and asthma and birth control.
Luckily I have insurance... if I didn't I would be absolutely broke...

I agree it is a great price you pay!! I pay 20 each and sometimes 40. Elmiron is 20. Elavil is 40, and I take 3 or 4 others all either 20 or 4o each. I agree its cheaper than 100 each but still costly...all adds up as you said too. Wish there were a cheaper way!

Yep,
It is 97.94 for 90 pills :yikes:that was a month 3 a day. I got the nurse at my uros office to call a script for 5 pills with 1 refill so I could try 1 pill a day for ten days and see how I did.:) I understand I have 5 scripts right now and it gets expensive although the other 5 together dont add up to Elmiron.

My dr has me trying meds for 14 days. So I picked up 14 days worth then if they work he does longer script. Do I end up paying double this way or do I end up paying cheaper for the 2 weeks worth than I do for the full month etc.? I was curious...this all adds up like I said, so I wanna see if Im spending unnecessarily. If so, I will tell them that.

The difference in prices is amazing to I am sure depends on the insurance company but my Elavil is only $3.00 dollars a month.
It's sad prescriptions should be affordable to everyone.

I've griped about this so often before too....I pay 62.00 a month taking 4 pills a day. I get so mad every time I have to pay it. The drug co. knows we have to have it too. I've asked my uro if there were samples before and he said they have never given him samples.
I was offered to fill out a drug form requesting assistance, but my husband makes way too much money, on paper. But in reality, the money all goes to bills and all that great stuff we all suffer with. Now I only have to take one other script for a heart condition. It costs 10.52 a month. But if we had no insurance, I would be paying over 300.00 a month for elmiron.
It's ridiculous, I know.

It's totally ridiculous what we have to pay for meds. The more I read about this the madder I get... I have insurance, and my hubby and I can afford the co-pays, but I am sitting here right now thinking about all of those out there who DON'T have insurance... what are THEY supposed to do??? Not take any meds at all and suffer??
Because Elmiron, without insurance, would probably be like $200 per month, and then I just checked, my Advair for asthma would be $175 per month without insurance, the Singulair is like $100 per month... and it goes on. That would be a HUGE chunk of somebody's paycheck...
TOTALLY unfair.
I'm writing to Congress about this. I'm sure they hear it all the time, but at least I'LL feel better about it...

Neither my husband or I have insurance that covers medications. He's a post open heart patient and I have my blood pressure medications plus IC plus some allergy stuff so we spend a bundle on prescriptions.
The only thing that is saving us is canadameds.com --- we order several from them and it saves a lot. They had one of our prescriptions on back-order a couple of months ago and we had to buy a 30-day supply here --- it cost us just under $60; just today the back-order came from Canada and it was $104 for a 100-day supply.
By all means, write your congressmen. I have written to mine.

 Great idea I'm going to write to my congressmen too.
My husband has degenerate disc disease and between the 2 of us our medicines are outrageous.
