Hello, I was diagnosed with IC this year. I was wondering if prelief would help with a pre-existing flare up. for example say Im currently having a flare up and I go to the store and buy prelief cause I wanted to drink some orange juice, would it help even if Im already having a flare up? and are flareups caused everyday by certain foods? It seems that i have been having a flareup everyday for a long time and nocturia. thank you

I'm no expert on this but it seems to me that it might help, or at least not contribute to making things worse, even during an existing flare up. I'm impressed with how Prelief allows me to cheat and suffer no consequences, eating things that otherwise would put me in a world of pain. But I personally wouldn't use it to drink OJ (or anything else questionable) if I was already in a flare to begin with! That thought just scares me!

and are flareups caused everyday by certain foods?
They can be. I know for me coffee was one of those everyday culprits until I backed away from it.

Hi, I cannot speak highly enough about Prelief. It has helped me with many foods I would not have been able to have otherwise. But if I had a trigger food, I took extra Prelief or eliminated that food from my diet.

Hope that helps!

Prelief is great! I wouldn't call it a miracle drug just yet but it really helps keep my bladder calm if I eat something questionable. I have cheated and tried spaghetti and the prelief did NOT prevent my flare! I realized that I have to leave tomatoes alone for the rest of my life! Oh and I wouldn't dare try prelief with orange juice! I believe that it works for most foods but the most citrus fruits and tomatoes it may not work for it. I believe it is a must-have med for IC patients!

I have never found Prelief makes much of a difference for me, so I stopped bothering with it. I am able to eat a much wider variety of foods now that I was in the beginning, and I am making my peace with the fact that there are some foods I simply must stay away from. When I flare, which isn't often at this point (knock on wood) I just make sure to go on a very strict diet until I feel better. I have not eaten an orange or any tomato product for 18 months. I can drink VERY modest amounts of alcohol and eat modest amounts of chocolate, for which I'm eternally grateful, but I steer clear of coffee, black tea, red wine, tomato and all vinegar, citrus or acidic juices. I can also use small amounts of mustard and mayo without bad results, and I can eat tofu, but don't use soy sauce. Maybe on my death bed I'll have a half grapefruit and a big slice of lemon tart.

When I'm flaring I wouldn't touch OJ. But prelief does make me able to eat and drink a lot of foods (the only things it hasn't worked on is tomato soup, asparagus, and more than one glass of red wine). That said, I doubt prelief would make me feel better.

I use Prelief mainly for hidden ingredients in the safest restaurant foods I can order.
It doesn't really allow me to "cheat" on things that are problematic for me...

In a flare I suggest you stick with your IC diet. It's not a good time to experiment. When you're feeling better, you might try a very small drink of low acid orange juice with prelief.
