I just heat a mug of milk in my microwave for 1 minute, 10 seconds, and add about 1 tablespoon of Smucker's caramel sundae syrup. Stir and enjoy!

I'm excited to try this, and have the ingredients already on hand! I'm new to this, and was fine with switching to only water & milk to drink...I can live without the soda, coffee & tea though I don't wanna...what stressed me out was thinking of what I'd drink when I make cocoa for my family....I have "world famous" cocoa to hear them tell it :P and our cocoa nights are precious to me. To think I have something that I can drink in leiu of cocoa makes me happy...thanks for sharing!

I like the containers that you just squirt out like Hershey's syrup the best for ease of operation. I don't know exactly how much I add. I just keep adding until it tastes good!

Glenda, you might try it with rice milk --- I've heard it's pretty good.

I don't drink those kind of things Donna.

They irritate my IBS-D and My Acid Reflux. They Nauseate Me.

I strictly drink Water. And 1/2 mug of Tea on a Cold day.

Holy cow! THat sounds good. My hubby isn't a chocolate fan, but loves caramel. I'll have to try making this for us once I get a chance to get to the store again.

Has anyone been brave enough to try some of the other ice cream toppings out there? I went to Wal-mart and saw butterscotch, cherry Dr. Pepper, A & W root beer, Smucker's apple cinnamon, and pumpkin spice. I wonder how some of those would taste in hot milk? Is it just the carbonation and caffeine that flare us when we drink soft drinks? I tried a little root beer on some ice cream about six months ago, and I won't repeat it any time soon, but would root beer float ice cream topping be O.K.? No caffeine or carbonation there.... Does anyone have any experience with any of these?

I also sometimes have trouble with milk unless I take milk pills. But, Donna, great idea to make it with rice milk - I bet it would be just as good:).

Unfortunately I can't use the smuckers brand of caramel with all the preservatives in them...does anyone else have this problem? Fresh Market carries a wonderful caramel that only has sugar, vanilla bean and cream....

KTMeak, unless you're not very diet sensitive, I'd be concerned about all of the additives and preservatives in those toppings as to how they might affect your IC.

I've been on Elmiron for about 2 1/2 years and things are gradually improving. I can eat more than I used to. I can eat 1/2 apple, 1/2 banana, peaches canned in pear juice, and other things that would have had me in major pain when this first started. It's wonderful to see progress. I just don't know how far to push it now.

Additiives don't bother me as much as they used to. I guess actually nothing does. I used to be swallowing 1/2 teaspoon baking soda in water about 3 times a day and now it's very rare that I use it at all.

Even if I do flare now, it's usually just 24-48 hours instead of a week or more. It's manageable! Sometimes I just try things because it just isn't as excruciating as it used to be. What's weird is that it seems like sometimes something is O.K., and then again another time it isn't. Sometimes that it because of where I am in my menstrual cycle, but other times I can't figure it out. I keep thinking maybe I could try a teaspoon of the root beer flavoring and see what happens. I really miss root beer!

Ha Ha, I know that one about sometimes something doesn't bother me, then the next time it does! I tried a small cup of earl gray tea earlier this week and no problem!!!(I've been taking elavil and that has really calmed things down for me). Then yesterday I had another cup of earl gray....half an hour later I was in horrible pain again..oh well..it gives new meaning to "live and learn"

Oh and I love hearing about how someone is back to eating a lot of normal foods. It gives me hope!
Thanks!

Donna's right. For anyone who's wondering, rice milk IS good. :smile tee
It's pretty mild-tasting. I usually just use regular milk but I've had a lot of rice milk, too. I've even had it in things like mashed potatoes and you really can't tell much of a difference.
Also, try almond milk. Carmel and almonds are really good so I think it's be a good combination.

Yummy! I'm drinking a cup right now and this is sooo good. I'm amazed at how little carmel I had to add and so easy to make. And I already had it in the fridge!

Thanks for the "warm me up"!

I can do Hershey's brand of Carmel Syrup in my hot milk or on top of Ice Cream.
