Wow Ronda that was fast!!! :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

If you have a stim, I would advise you to turn it off before you get to the court house. The security guard wands you to see if you are carrying a weapon. I didn't even think about it, and my bladder went crazy!!!

When you do go into the judges chambers, let everyone there know that part of your condition is frequency and you do not mean to be rude but when you have to go- You have to go now! So, maybe say something like this, I cannot remember my exact words but it was something like this, after I explained it being part of my IC "if it is alright when I do need to go if I just excuse myself from here on out and just go?" Judge was fine with it. Actually I was probably in the chambers not even 5 mins before I had to go and when I returned, my attorney leaned over and said, "you just won your case" and I did for IC alone.

Also, April Chen here had some really great ideas of taking all her instill supplies in and showing the judge and everyone there what she has to do to on a daily basis to survive.

I think that my attorney went WAY over board in explaining to me what I should and should not say......he made me more crazy then need be! It was nothing like he said it was going to be.....and it probably only took about 20mins.

I'm sure others will chime in here soon. If I can think of anything else, I'll write more later. I'm exhausted!!

Prayiing for you! hugs and blessings

Excellent news!

Your lawyer will know what to do, so don't sweat it if you can help it. Then again, if the stress increases your symptoms and you wind up peeing on the floor at the hearing, you'll be a shoo-in!

I know, I'm a twisted lady, but I hope you got a smile out of it.

Thank you all and TY Mary. I am so nervous!!

glad you got a court date that is positive. I did not have to go to court but you have an attorney so that is stress relief there i Hope.
I do not know of anyone who has gone before a judge with IC and got denied- some with attorney and some representing yourself.
praying for you . vicky
judge willl probably ask you a few questions about your ic and how it effects your daily living.

When we thought we would be going to a hearing (the judge decided to allow me disability once she read my case file without the hearing), my attorney primed me with some tips for that day although we never needed to use them. He told me to dress down and wear little or no make up. To make sure I spoke about the pain this disease is causing me. That its unrelenting.

One of the things we spoke about is a way of explaining what the disease feels like since so many people are unfamiliar with IC. When I have friends that ask me about it, I tell them to imagine a time when they needed to use the bathroom so badly that they could barely concentrate or think of anything but getting to the bathroom and peeing. To think of a time when they asked someone to hold the phones for them at work or when the rushed into their house doubled over from having to go so badly. Well imagine that this feeling never goes away. That you go to the bathroom only to find that almost nothing comes out and you are left with that horrific feeling. That we deal with that feeling every moment of our lives. Nobody can possibly concentrate when they are feeling this constantly and that its exctruciating to have to sit down for any real period of time due to the pain and feeling of having to go. That is why working is not even an option. To ask them to imagine the time that they had a terrible bladder infection and knew that relief was around the corner after a day or two of antibiotics, but for us that pain and suffering never goes away. Your lawyer has probably already told you this, but definitely bring any pictures of your bladder that you may have. My pictures were instrumental in my winning disability because you can clearly see the scarring and bleeding. That severe organ pain is not something you see on someone. Its what you feel and its incredibly debilitating. They need to somehow identify with what you are going through to even begin to understand.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you. Really hope and pray that you get good news! :)

ICP,

that was a very good discription. One of my friends, friend, was talking about a couple recent bladder infectons and how she went both times to the ER and how after a few days, she said she hurt so bad she could of killed herself. I just looked at her and said, imagine living that way everyday of you life for years and knowing there is little relief instore. The room just went still and no one commented.

I just had to share that.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!!

Hey Leelee! I haven't been around here for a while, and I actually logged in today for a completely different reason, but when I saw your post about your Hearing date I knew I'd be replying. :) I'm happy for you that you will be moving the process along, although I know that the decision to go on Disability at all is a difficult one. I'm sure you'll do fine at your Hearing -- just be yourself.

In case it might be helpful, here's the link to an older thread where a few of us posted advice and tips on managing the Hearing:

My thoughts are with you, Ronda. Best of luck.
