Hi,
I've been having DMSO treatments for years, I'd like to offer some advice, maybe it will help you. After I come home, I take a warm bath (nothing in the water-no bubbles or soap) it helps me quite a bit.
Also, remember to drink water when you get home, to keep things going thru your bladder, sort of to flush it.
I'm sure it will help, after a few treatments I did notice some relief.

I am a little nervous about beginning these dmso treatments and my uro told me they cause no pain. He said if I had anymore questions to look on the internet ? After reading the patient handbook for these treatments and many of the posts I am more confused and nervous.:help: When they scheduled my appointment the doctor was booked and told the nurse she could do it. Which made me a little uncomfortable. I am sure she is capable. I am thinking I should hold off on these treatments till I am more comfortable that he has answered all my questions he seems to dodge most of them. He is good to me just seems to me he is brief and quick to get me out. Even my PCP suggested I get all the information I needed for IC on the internet? She admitted she did not know much except its chronic pain. I see from reading many of your posts you has helped some and not others typical IC everyone is different . I also see from reading some people have different number of treatments he said its 4 treatments. He didnot mention how often they are done? I have read many different post and seems everyone gets them at different times too. When the treatment begins are they usually weekly or monthly or does that differ as well? Sorry so many questions

most doctor do a six week treatment with six installments. they may try diff things if one doesnt help they may switch it that is what my doctor had to do.
I will be honest those first ones in the office did hurt because my bladder was so upset after the surgery and being dx. I think that the reason most people has problems it took me over a year before i would try them again i was scared but thankful i didn't give up on them this time.
I can't say it will work for you I hope it does.
try to relax take your pain medicine if you have any or a nerve pill before the appt. have someone with you to drive just in case then go home and use your heating pad and try to relax the rest of the day.
i think someone said sitting in a warm tub of water with no soap helped them
Oh yes drink lots of water to flush your system out well
sending you hugs and prayers

My first few DMSO treatments were very painful --- I almost stopped them because of that. Then one night I slept the night through without waking up even once --- that was enough to convince me to continue. I started with eight weekly treatments, then went to a once a month schedule, which seems to keep me going pretty well.
The nurse does the treatments for me; I have lidocaine instilled first, which helps control the pain from the DMSO.
Sending an encouraging hug,
Donna

Hi Kelly,
I started with a series of 6 DMSO treatments. They were given once a week for 6 weeks. Now I've got a break, but I've started getting worse again, so I think I am going to go get a few more. They did help me.
Also, the nurse did mine each time... it is actually quite normal for the uro's nurse to do the treatment. She's probably done hundreds of them :)
At first the treatments were painful, but after a while it got more bearable. I'm sure you'll do great!!

Thank you so much Jen,Donna, and Rhonda,
makes me feel better to know the nurse has done this for some of you. My uro said 4 treatments not sure why not 6 but I am sure he has his reasons.I'll let you know how it goes.

I wouldn't worry about the nurse doing the DMSO treatment. Nurses regularly do catheters. The treatment is pretty simple, catheter, pour in the DMSO, remove the catheter, and hold it, as long as you can! Then stink for awhile! LOL!

Thanks Blue,
I'll let yah know how I do. I might have to push the date back alittle. My work schedule is loaded that weekend there are 2 prom's. I have a appointment with a IC specialist at the end of May so I may wait to see her first.
Thanks all for your support:grouphug: :grouphug: ,
