Fall Leaf Turkey

This simple craft is made with natural materials (leaves and a pinecone.
Materials Needed:

* Fall leaves
* pinecone
* eyes (wiggly or paper)
* paper
* glue
* scissors

Instructions:

* Go outside and collect autumn leaves and a pinecone (this is LOADS of fun, especially if it requires a trip to a park!)

* OPTIONAL: You can press the leaves for a few days before making the craft. This will help keep them from getting crunchy. We didn't do this for ours (we've had it about 2 weeks now and it still looks fine)

* Glue the leaves onto a piece of paper in a fan shape. Younger kids won't get a nice fan, but they'll still have lots of fun gluing!

*

Glue the pinecone onto the bottom of the fan (use lots of glue)

*

Make eyes from a scrap piece of paper and markers or use wiggly eyes. Glue them to the pinecone.

*

Make an orange beak and a red wobbler from felt, construction paper or white paper and markers. Glue them onto the pinecone.

*

Let dry and hang up!

Thanksgiving Poems and Songs
Five little turkeys standing at the door,
One waddled off, and then there were four.

Four little turkeys sitting near a tree,
One waddled off , and then there were three.

Three little turkeys with nothing to do,
One waddled off, and then there were two.

Two little turkeys in the morning sun,
One waddled off, and then there was one.

One little turkey better run away,
For soon it will be Thanksgiving Day.

Funny Turkey
The turkey is a funny bird
Its head goes bobble-bobble;

And all he knows is just one word...
And that is GOBBLE-GOBBLE!

Turkey Dinner
When Daddy carves the turkey,
It is really quite a sight,
I know he tries his hardest,
But he never does it right.
He makes a fancy show of it,
Before he starts to carve,
And stabs in all directions,
While we're certain that we'll starve.
He seems to take forever,
As we sit and shake our heads,
By the time he's finished slicing,
He's reduced the birds to shreds.
He yells as loud as thunder,
Just before he's finally through
For when Daddy carves the turkey,
Daddy carves his finger too!

Thanks Cindy!
We so far made turkeys but cutting out a hand and drawing a head and by making the fleathers ( an easy oval shape) and taping to the mom cut out body.

Thinking of doing leaf shapes to hang on ceiling.

Printing the poems now! :grouphug:

I don't do a feast with parents, but I do have parents send drink, fruit, popcorn and a turkey cookie.I push all the tables together in long line.Then I put brown butcher paper down on table and let kids draw Indian signs and other things on for table cloth.Put some fake leaves in middle of table. Kids wear Indian and Pilgrim hats .We sing Thanksgiving songs.One thing I do is have kids hold up palm of one hand and fist for other hand then stick out thumb on fist and this makes a turkey as we sing songs.They love to do this.You can make the back of your hand strut and sway. Ideas for centres.I did see on some sight where someone made a turkey had numbers on it. Then children rolled a dice and they colored it in.Coffee Filter color with markers and then glue child's foot print for body and put beak and legs on it.You could have them make turkey's by drawing around their hands. If you have a tepee.Put Indian signs on the inside and children can go in 2 at a time and draw the singes.They love this.
