I found a book on Ayervedic treatment at the library and found it fascinating. Since then I found a source for a kidney rejuvinating tonic that is made in the Ayervedic tradition. It contains a lot of the herbs and plants that contain natural antibiotic abilities or diuretic properties. I researched EVERY ingrediant on the web and using the Physicians Desk Reference of Herbs and found nothing dangerous. I do believe it has strenthened my bladder and my main symtpom now is burning. I take baking soda with water at night as morning urination was the most painful. I also have adjusted my diet and do yoga. I hope this helps someone! Tia

I take 1/2 a teaspoon at night mixed with a little glass of water. I have found Prelief provides similar relief.

tia2, have you tryed alfalfa? i have and have had great sucess. but does keep me hungry.the tabs are also cheap, and that is good if no ins to buy prescripion drugs. i know most of us are waiting on ssi to come thru. i have used cysta-q that i got on icn site. it works well also. but can't afford to buy it any longer. so alfalfa sure is worth it ,cheap. wal-mart even carrys it. we got to help each other in this. most docs think we are crazy women .complaining all the time. i am trying to heal myself. i have to admit i am doing better taking care of myself. blueblondie1121:butterfly

Hey Blueblondie it's great to meet someone who is in my same boat. My husband thought I was a little nutsy when I started trying herbal remedies but he can't argue with success.

Thanks for the alfalfa tip. I'll try anything once! Have a great day!

I am encouraged that there are others seeking treatments on their own. Last time I went to my uro to find out what was new in treatment she copied some of the papers I had with me and said I had given her new information. I learned nothing from her except that about 50% of her IC patients have relief with Elmiron.

I have heard that alfalfa helps. In what ways does it help? How do you take it as a tea and can it be bought as a tea or does it need to be made?

"Buchu" tea has been reputed to be good for the bladder for hundreds of years. It is grown around the Cape Horn of Africa. You can buy a quality product on-line if your health food store doesn't carry it. It kind of tastes like peppermint if you like that flavour.

I buy super strength alfalfa tabs and drop one of them in a cup of hot water. When I don't want tea I can just take one of the tabs.
