So I am almost 11 weeks pregnant
and so scared about delivery. I know
jumping the gun a bit. Any experienced
IC suffers have any advice? Also did your
IC symptoms go into remission while
pregnant? I was on Elmiron and detrol
for 2.5 years before becoming pregnant.
not sure if the med finally helped, but all
of a sudden I can eat so many things like
tomato sauce and I am loving it!

congrats
I'm also preg...but just found out...so only five weeks. My IC was in remission during my last pregnancy so delivery really didn't bother it. Hopefully someone else can chime in and let you know. I was just wondering if you had any flare ups during the beginning weeks? I'm having some right now.

So far I have not had Any flare ups and
keeping my fingers crossed. I used to
flare on occasion around my period, probably
from hormones. I hope you are feeling
better!

Congrats on the pregnancy -- to both of you!
I just had a little girl on Oct. 2. My IC was very cooperative while pregnant. I had a slight flare in the first month, but then it settled down. THe only other issue was two UTIs. I tend to get them anyway. I realized by about the second trimester that I was able to eat foods I usually couldn't and have no bad effects. That was awesome!
As far as delivery goes, I was induced. Every delivery is different, from what I hear. Mine actually took 24 hours. I'm going to write about it in the next issue of IC Optimist. It was difficult, but not because of my bladder. I did end up getting an epidural. I was going to try not to because I tend to have bad luck and figured I'd end up one of the small percentage with issues! However, I didn't have any trouble. I did ask for a pediatric cath, though. I'm not sure if that helped but it didn't hurt. I actually didn't have all that much burning and stuff afterward from the cath. Of course, everything was tender in that area at the time, but I was surprised I didn't have more repercussion.
Since giving birth, I have had two UTIs. My uro thinks it could be that with muscles loosening and retightening and all in that area that I may have retained some urine here and there causing two within about six weeks. Like I said before, though, I have trouble with UTIs. Before trying to get pregnant, I was on a low dose antibiotic all the time. Now I'm breastfeeding, so I can't do that.
I was also able to stay off all my bladder meds while pregnant. I have been able to so far since having the baby, too. I think breastfeeding helps. I am getting back to having some diet sensitivity, though. Not quite as much as usual, but I can't have as much as I did while I was pregnant.
You are welcome to PM or e-mail me at schr3ib3r@gmail.com if you want. I just went through this and know how many worries and concerns I had. I actually just told my husband the other day that if I could, I would go back to the beginning of my pregnancy and tell myself not to worry so much about everything!
