Has anyone noticed that they have heavier periods with IC? For the last three months by periods have been extremely heavy and have lasted more than 5 days. I am concerned that this may be a deeper problem with my uterus or ovaries not related to IC. Or maybe it's all the meds I've been taking I'm not to sure. :hmm:
Has anyone else had this problem?

The only time mine got heavier was with the onset of menopause. I think a trip to the gyn would be a good idea.

I absolutely agree that you should see your gynecologist. It could be pre-menopause, but you need to find out for sure.

That happened to me after I developed full blown IC, I was 38. Mine became much heavier, and longer. I just figured my hormones were shifting because of my age. Then finally it got to where my periods were lasting 20 days. I had enough of that. Went to the gyno to have everything checked out, and I was given birth control pills to regulate it. Turned out to be a bit of a blessing in disguise. The pills took some of the edge off of my IC. :D

Hello all,
I am 21 years old so I should hope that I am not getting signs of menopause already! I do take birth control pills to which makes this even more strange. I will definitely see my gyno and see what she thinks.
Thanks,
Janelle :dogrun:

I'm premenopausal...I think. I'm going back to have a second ultrasound of my right ovary. I've had a cyst on there for about 8 years, but it doesn't cause me any pain. We still are not sure if is causing IC symptoms, or if the premenopause is causing IC symptoms. But YES, my periods are heavier, especially on the 2nd day (Super Plus tampons plus pads). I also spotted this month on the 14th day, for one day. Period due any day now and my IC symptoms are worse right now. I'm using Estrace cream without any significant help. Back to urologist end of May.

Maybe this is a dumb question but what is estrace cream? I was thinking about my options as far as stopping my period all together. I always have a flare before my period so I was thinking about getting on Deprovera or skipping the placebos in my birth control. I think I will talk to my gyno next week.

Estrace cream is a prescription hormone cream.
I do think you need to see your gyn. When I was about your age, I tried taking birth control pills and the result was a messed up menstrual cycle, with heavy bleeding and bleeding mid cycle. You may need some adjustments to your medications.

I am 34 and for the last or six years my periods were very heavy and ver painful. I had not been diagnosed yet so my gyno said i shouldhave a hysterectomy and i did and it didn't help my pain.So I would see your gyno but before you have any major surgery get a second opinion.

Hi I am new here. I am being tested for IC in the next few weeks..both my gyn specialist and my gp dcotor are really convinced I have IC, but not my Uroligist...Crazy huh??
I also suffer endometriosis.
..which are implants outside the uterus. I've now heard endo, IC, and IBS all run together. I would really check with your gyn to get it figured out. Syptoms of endo are pain, heavy bleeding, abnormal bleeding, cramping all through the month...there are lots of other symptoms....Please do a search hun:kiss:

To anyone with the bleeding problem, my response to Cookie:

may be of interest. Especially note about LCDs/CRTs. Because the latter can be a hidden offender similar to "hidden allergies".

I have always had heavy painful periods. The last 4 were off the scales and we checked for endo everything was fine except some cysts in my right ovary. My gyn said it could have been stress . I definately agreed at the time I was in a great deal of stress and being bounced from doctor to doctor trying to figure out what was wrong with me. Since my hydro/cysto/lap I have had 2 more periods the same as my previous 4. I am keeping track and plan on discussing this at my next appointment.

I have been having problems with my period for years too. Very heavy bleeding and mine are very painful. I also have constant blood clots every period. I cannot tolerate any type of birth control. I can tell you that I've known a lot of people that tried the depro veras and gained a lot of weight with it. I gained about 30, so did my sister, and about 5 different friends I know. It might not be the same for you. I just wanted to put that out there. How do you check for endometriosis? I had a vaginal ultrasound and my gyno sad I was all clear. But they can't explain all the problems. I have really bad pains before and during my periods, bad mood swings, lots of blood clots, excuse the ickiness but off and on diarria. I have aweful doctors. Well I hope things work out for you. I hope you will feel better soon. Take care - Chris :)

My periods have been messed up for the past year (and my IC is getting worse over the past year) I have noticed different color in the beginning.. more clots... longer (7 -10 days) I don't have much pain from them, never have (I'll be 29 in a couple weeks) I spot between them too. And my cycle seems backwards...you know how your second day is the heaviest and then slows down.. Mine starst dark brown and very spotty for about a week.. then starts slow and gets really heavy and then just stops... then maybe starts again after a couple days. I get a flare up almost every month right at the beginning of my period... I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one... I'd be very interested in hearing more about this-- I'm not real sure what to think
