Hi,

I noticed later this afternoon that after I urinated the toilet paper was bright pinkish red. Ever since then I've noticed that my urine is also pinkish red in color. Is this normal at all for IC? I called my PCP and they said to call my urologist in the morning preferably-so that's what I plan to do. I did one of those at home UTI test kits and it shows the highest level of white blood cells, but no nitrates or protein. I'm confused because I've never seen any visible blood with my IC in the past. It's so strange because my IC was in a pretty good remission for several years. I got a cystoscopy about a month ago and ever since then I've noticed that I've become very diet sensitive (never noticed that before) I ate a few pieces too many of raison toast yesterday and ended up in a flare last night. I thought I had come out of it this morning, but this afternoon I started feeling pain at the end of urination again and noticed this blood. I don't have all my usual UTI symptoms-I want to die pain and no UTI frequency. Like I said though, this is really strange for me to see this amount of blood in my urine. The last time I saw this amount of blood on the toilet tissue was a month ago after my cystoscopy....any thoughts?

Thanks,
Jill

The most frequent cause of bloody urine is infection. I'm glad you're being checked out quickly.

Hi,

I called my urologist on Wednesday, and apparently they were closed for Veterans Day. I was going to call today, but didn't because it stopped after Tuesday night. I was debating on calling and just didn't do it. I honestly am wondering if I caused some type of small tear or something. I know that sounds really crazy, but my bladder has been feeling sore ever since then. I was holding back some pretty strong urges to pee before all that happened. I'm pretty sure it's not an infection. I know how my body feels with an infection and this just wasn't even close. I am feeling better, but I would like to know what exactly that was from. I'm still considering calling my uro, but I don't want him to do a cystoscopy or anything like that because I'm betting he won't know exactly. That's what got me in this whole mess after being in a semi remission for the last six years. I wonder if I should call anyway just to check in about it, but sometimes I get so embarrassed calling my doctors about everything.

Jill - please call your urologist and get an appointment. Having blood in your urine isn't normal. Especially when it's visible and you're not on your period. Even if you can't see the blood anymore, you could have microscopic blood cells in your urine.

Call and get an appointment. It's always better to be safe than sorry. And tell your doctor that you feel odd calling and coming in - - I'm sure he'll tell you that it's best to call if you're worried about something. :)

Keep us posted and good luck.
