I couldn't find a gabapentin/neurontin type place so I'm putting it in Elavil. Next week when I go back we're going to go over what worked that he's prescribed so far (nothing) and look at "next choices." Last time he brought up gabapentin or neurontin for pain control. Has anyone used that? Was it as effective as oxycodone and muscle relaxants for pain management? Currently I use oxycodone with soma when things are bad, prescribed by my primary care physician. I'm also on tofranil and using heparin instills. The urologist prescribed urelle, ultram and levsin instead of the oxycodone/soma, and they weren't effective in managing pain. Further, drinking enough water to take the urelle put my frequency up to around once every twenty minutes, and even if I quit drinking by seven at night, the combination of poor pain control plus increased fluid intake put me up six times overnight on average.

Any feedback on gabapentin/neurontin and how it worked for IC pain would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :-)

I was given this medication afew years back for Migraine headaches.

900 mg's daily.

Well as we all know , it is an Anti Seizure medication.

Guess what it gave me > Minature seizures like Mimi malls.

I get the side effects it is suppose to Prevent.
Elavil fried my brain for Ten days.

I don't trust any of these medications anymore and won't take anything.
What it prevents > I GET*

Bizarre and one's for the Guiness record book.

Gee I was wondering about this drug too as my mom could not take elival at all. Made her way too dizzy and could not function. My mom has the same issues with drugs sometimes. He family Dr gave her a few Ativan to try for her anxciety with IC and it made her more nervous!!! I guess you never know till you try though..

I don't want to seem to be a disagreeable patient, etc., though... that is part of the issue. I've been allergic to elavil, unable to take vistaril (blinding headaches) and had issues from Elmiron instillation. So now we're looking at other alternatives.... :-(

The Human body really was Never designed to Take Drugs !

Yes these medications do help us for various ailments , but they can cause some pretty wicked side effects , which goes right back to the above statement > The Human body was not designed to take drugs.

The thing that really gets to me is > They put you on a medication that prevents those symptoms , but for me , They give me the symptoms.
Anti Seizure medications make me jerk like I am sitting in the electrical chair in jail.
The Anti Depressant med Elavil ( Amitryptaline ) fried my Brain for Ten days off of One 25 mg's pill.

I don't trust these medications at all. :tsk:
And with my Cousin being a Medical Examiner , and listening to the Pill storys , I am even more Leary of takling these things.

Hi there - I had trouble with Neurontin giving me opposite effects. They took me off it immediately. Please don't let this discourage you from trying other medications. There is one out there that will help you through this tough time. You just have to have faith and patience.

Wishing you well on your journey.

God Bless.

I was on neurontin for a while. It did decrease my frequency a little, but I had trouble tapering up so I never got past 300mg/day. The side effects were harsh - major dizziness and forgetfulness. I decided to go back to Elavil after that.

I think it's worth giving it a try, though. You have to hang in there for the first few days though because that's when you're the dizziest.
