That's what they call it. Kind of like if we don't actually say the word maybe we can hold off it's arrival. It didn't work. This morning I awoke to find everything covered with snow. I guess winter has begun for North Idaho.

Anybody else making snowmen out there?

Yikes!!! That is scary!! I won't say the word here or all
our rain in the Chicago area will turn to snow - that would be
a lot of snow!!
I guess in your case, have a "White Halloween"!!
Best wishes,
Holly

I live in Boise (S.W> Idaho, for those who don't know), and yep, I saw that evil stuff here today! But not much of it, thankfully!

This is my 1st post here.... I promise I will introduce myself sometime soon... II joined Mon, but haven't had time, plus...along with the Snow today, I woke up with a bit of a cold or something very early this morning...ugh...so I really don't have much energy... just had to add my cooment about Snow in Idaho in October :)

Holly, I have no doubt you'll get your share of it over there in Chicago eventually!

Hey Becky, Nice to see a fellow 'spud' here at the ICN! I hope your cold (or whatever you have starting up) turns out to be something mild that passes quickly. Lots of people sick up this way! I look forward to reading your introduction when you get around to it.

Anyway, the snow is coming down fairly steady tonight. It's actually rather nice. I turned on the flood light that illuminates the yard outside of the living room. It's so pretty how the light reflects off of the snowflakes!

I wonder what my whitetail twins think about this turn of events? They're usually in the yard but are strangely absent tonight. I suppose they're huddled under a fir somewhere thinking, 'What the heck?!'

I feel like I should get my Christmas decorations out!

We thankfully haven't had snow or an "ice day" in a few years. (which is great, as because since we don't get these kind of days people drive crazy and the city, county closes up.) We are having our share of rain though. I am glad we are having it but enough is enough!!

I suppose all that rain is one of those mixed blessings, Mary. My sister (just north of Austin) tells me some in her area were having their wells go dry.

Yeah, I lived there for a number of years and it was scary how people drove on those rare occasions when the roads got slick! In all fairness though, even here it seems to take a few days for people to put 2 + 2 together. I try to stay off of the roads during their adjustment period!

Thanks! I'm always happy to 'meet' fellow 'spuds'! Still dealing with this cold, it's not been too bad thankfully, but I'm still not up to doing much. Will post my intro when I'm feeling better.

If it meant seeing resident white tail deer a lot, I'd be more than willing to put up with that 'S' word! It's been a long time since I have seen a deer (haven't gotten to go up in the mountains much.... between my DH & I being low income, & both having health issues, we can't travel much:()

as far as drivers, around here when it snows people seem to forget we live in Idaho, and gee whiz, guess what, it does Snow in Boise!

WOW - I live in Michigan - yet haven't seen snow yet - - we sure get our fair share each winter
It was at least 75 degrees here on Friday - I couldn't believe it....

I hope the snow takes a while to get here - I'm just not ready for it yet.

Vicki: I know it takes time to adjust wherever you are--but I have friends who are from Iowa and other states up north that just laugh at us when everything shuts down.

I know. I mean it is kind of strange to those who live someplace where snow & ice is the norm in winter. On the other side of the coin, when it gets above 90 degrees here in the summer the tv newscasters are on air acting like they have a crisis situation to manage on their hands.

I was just in Las Vegas a few weeks ago and couldn't get over how many people there were wearing coats and even winter boots! -Like it was cold there or something! (I wasn't the only one who noticed this as it seemed to be the main topic of conversation for travelers on the flight back to Spokane) But, I guess it's all a matter of what one is used to. Sort of like how when it finally hits 50 degrees here in March people are running around in T shirts and tank tops!

75 in Michigan sounds unusually warm for this time of year! I suppose by now (4 days later) that nice weather is only a memory?

I remember when we were in Hawaii and met our fishing boat at 7:30 am --- we were in shorts, sandals, and t-shirts and warm --- the boat captain had on jeans and a jacket!

Just earlier this week we saw someone witha jacket, gloves and a headscarve on covering her mouth and nose (now here it was around 80 degrees) and I had to chuckle a little bit saying that it too much with this weather, (I am very cold natured but not that bad) can't wait to see how this person reacts to the cold weather when we do get it.

It has been cold here for the last couple days and have been freezing here at home. Yesterday I took a hot bath in the middle of the day to get warmed up.

I just checked the thermostat and my husband has it set to 60. Since both of us are getting old eyes, I can only assume that he set it at 68 and "missed."

I hope! lol

It's about 70 here today in Ohio (S. E) and today I was thinking Wow probably by the end of the Month it's going to be doing the "S" word. I'm getting so I hate winter. I guess since I've been sick I don't get out much and the "S" just compounds that for me.

I use to have the mind that I couldn't wait for it to "S" to go sleding. Which I still love, but it's hard on the bladder, not to mention the energy it takes getting back up the hill (LOL)

hugs and blessings,

Oh, that 70 degrees (much less the 80 Mary speaks of!) would feel wonderful right now! I can't imagine putting on a jacket, gloves and headscarf when it was 80 out! Like Donna, I noticed a similar thing in Hawaii. -One day it was 'cool', -probably only 78 degrees, and I saw a number of people wearing jackets.

Our snow level has receded upwards for now to an elevation roughly 500' higher than my house. I can see the snow line on the ridge across the valley.

I use to have the mind that I couldn't wait for it to "S" to go sleding.
I haven't been sledding in years but now that the grandkids are getting old enough I'm looking forward to starting in on my second childhood! I've already bought new sleds!

I just checked the thermostat and my husband has it set to 60. Since both of us are getting old eyes, I can only assume that he set it at 68 and "missed."
Do you find that 60 is a lot colder now than 60 used to be? I do!

I still look forward to the snow. I had to laugh reading my earlier post.....
I turned on the flood light that illuminates the yard outside of the living room. It's so pretty how the light reflects off of the snowflakes!
It reminded me of a joke my sister sent me titled "A Texan moves North". I know that by April I'll be sick of "S" and have all kinds of nasty things to say when I see the white stuff falling!

I may have to see if I can find that joke and post it if it isn't too long.

For the first time in a very long time, I am not dreading winter. I just can't take the cold anymore. We moved to Texas (just north of Austin) in June and we are absolutely LOVING it. After a very hot summer, these cooler temps (70s-80) feel chilly to us. We're looking forward to a much milder and shorter winter here. When we sold our house in Ohio, the first thing we did was sell the snow blower. We may have a few chilly days here, but we won't be needing to dig out after a big snowstorm again. :woohoo: Those days are over for us and I won't be missing them at all!!!
