Well, I just found out today that my insurance has denied paying for any more pelivic floor therapy. I have gone for twelve sessions, so I guess I should be thankful that they paid for that. I have just in the last few weeks started to feel better but still feeling tightening in my urethra which leads to retention occasionally. What do I do now? I go to see a urogyno tomorrow. This will be my first visit with her. Is it possible she could request an extension for my therapy? Just wondering if anyone has delt with this situation before. Thanks

Hi Sue,
I haven't dealt with that specifically but I know that some insurance companies will reconsider if they get a letter from the doctor explaining the importance of this therapy for your well being. Do you have a health care advocate that you could call? (when I was working my insurance was through my company and any issues could be addressed through this advocate.). Hopefully someone else can come up with some ideas. I'm about 8 sessions into physical therapy myself and it's just beginning to give me some relief, so completely understand the desire to keep going!
Good luck,
Cynthia

What I do when I am in the middle of treatment and it is working- the therapist writes a letter to the treating doctor and he/she in turns will usually get the referral extended; but it depends on the insurance company.

thanks...i'm going to my therapist tomarrow and will see if there is anything we can do. Otherwise I guess I'll just pay out of my pocket. I only feel like I need a few more to get me were I need to be.

Sue,
I have only had 6 sessions of pelvic floor therapy with my PT, so I am not an authority or anything, but has your PT had you purchase a crystal wand or any kind of tool that you can use at home to sort of do, what they do? For me, it does not feel the same as the PT but it is better than nothing & allows me to stretch out the muscles every day, rather than wait a week for a treatment. Just a suggestion...I know it is not the same as the PT!

yay...i have a dialator...I think that's the same thing. And my husband came with once and was taught some things that my PT does. I agree it is something. I'm just nervous to now have to go without therapy.

Many insurance companies limit the number of physical therapy visits. Mine only allows eight for a specific condition. Hopefully your therapist can instruct you on things you can do at home.
