Thanks for posting this article. I have been having fibro-type symptoms for awhile now, they get bad and then get better so I really don't know if I have this or not. May talk to my uro next time I go about refering me to a rheumatologist to see if I have fibromyalgia.

Go to www.overlappingconditions.org, the medical community is realizing that many conditions seem to be related.

Below is excerpt from their welcome page, if you go to the site, you will be able to research all the conditions mentioned.

Welcome
Millions of Americans suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome, endometriosis, fibromyalgia, interstitial cystitis, irritable bowel syndrome, temporomandibular joint and muscle disorders, and vulvodynia. Current research indicates that these conditions frequently coexist or 'overlap,' yet all of the disorders are poorly understood. As a result, health care providers receive little training in these types of disorders and many patients are misdiagnosed and receive inappropriate treatment. Research on the overlap of these conditions is in its infancy, so we don’t know how/why they are connected. There are many unanswered questions. Some people suffer from two conditions, while others have three or more. In some cases, individuals suffer from one condition for many years before developing a second or third; in other cases, individuals experience symptoms of several conditions simultaneously. These disorders make life very difficult for millions of sufferers and their families. In addition, they cost the United States tens of billions of dollars each year in medical expenses and lost productivity. An expanded federal research effort is urgently needed to investigate common underlying mechanisms and risk factors for these disorders, so that preventive strategies and more effective treatments can be developed.

I know that I can hurt all over. Pain in my back, neck, hips. I even have some pain in my face. There are times that I just don't have any energy. I know that I love to lay down in my bed and watch T.V. I feel more relaxed. SOme times my feet will hurt for no reason. I told my URO about it and she says it could be FIBRO. But I have said this to my family DR. and he just brushes it off and tells me that it could be my IC.

I have the same kind of pain all over, and it moves around. I even have the face pain too....even hurts to touch.
Have no energy a lot of the time, sleep a lot sometimes but wake up feeling just as tired as when I lie down. If I have fibro, it sure would explain a lot. Thank you guys for all the info, I'm definitely going to talk to my doc about it next time I go.

Thanks for posting this info. I wonder is there a poll somewhere of how many people with I.C. have one or more of these overlapping conditions? Anyone know?

thanks!

Ugh! I have an appt on 12/4 with a Rheumatologist as I suspect I may have fibro. It was not a sudden onset, just an gradual sort of thing and for the past month or so my whole body has been hurting. My arms, legs, neck, back, ugh....it is awful and I am extremely fatigued. Geese, I don't like feeling sick all over. My muscles just seem to ache, my legs seem to throb, it feels like someone is pulling my neck, my hips, my back....Damn this is no fun.

This has been known for years. IC is also associated with IBS, allergies, migraines, skin sensitivity,& vulvodynia, as well as the fibro. The NIDDK is doing a study-MAPP. I do not know if any info on the study is out yet.
But I had IBS 25 years before I developed the IC, fibro since my 30's, migraines, & allergies. My dr. was not surprised when the IC started.

i have fibro for years now, and dx with ic while back! But also have ibs and tmj! there is so much of these that do overlap and just getting the right dr to understand and have the knowledge of all and proper treatment! I am so exhausted and pain is severe both with ic and fibro. I oxycodone around the clock. recently added some herbs that i read on here from others that swear they help! i would love to get off all these meds, i know it damages my liver! everyone have a nice day and good thoughts!

My jaw is constantly popping when I open it and chew. Is this common with those who have TMJ?

I too have suspected for awhile that I may have fibro and have made an appt w/a rheumatologist to rule it out. Now I can arrive at that appointment as informed as possible. Thanks again! :smile tee
