Looking for people to tell their stories on how you discussed your IC with your families.
I have yet to tell my parents as I am waiting to see them in person and I am not sure what I will say. Not sure I want my dad to know - I am still his little girl.
Maybe I will take my mom out for a private talk first.
Anyway - I was just curious about your experiences and the responses that you got.

I live in the same town as my parents so I had told them what was going on from when I first had symptoms. They have always been very, very supportive and understanding.

With other family I either explained IC as feeling like a horrible UTI that never goes away (some of the women could relate) or I would compare it to the feeling you get on a roadtrip when you have to pee SO badly, but there isn't a rest stop in sight. And then when you DO find a rest stop and pee - there is no relief. You still feel the way you did in the car on the Interstate. All the time.

I have always had a lot of understanding when I explain it. I know not everyone has had that experience, though.
