I have a question to those of you diagnosed with Hunner's ulcers. Has anyone tried cauterization for them? Did it help? I see on the ICA there has been some success with this.

I had Hunner's ulcers. My uro did an outpatient laser procedure (it is called fulgeration) and it was very helpful. My pain level went down noticeably almost instantly. The uro told me that some patients feel improvement immediately (like me) but for others the improvement takes a bit of time.
I don't know if cauterization is the same as fulgeration but, if it is, my experience was very positive. HTH

The only way I know I have ulcers is my uro told me he saw some. They don't seem to make a difference in symptoms.

When I was diagnosed with IC in 2004 via cysto/hydro, my doctor said he saw some Hunner's ulcers, but I have never had any type of procedure designed to specifically treat them (lasers, etc). There are, however, a number of people cruising through the boards who have had this done, so I hope one of them can give you some details on that procedure. Good luck!!

Ulcers were found during my cysto/hydro (5 yrs ago) and fulgurated (burned off). I guess that's similar to having them cauterized. I had sharp stabbing bladder pain before having them fulgurated and that particular pain has never returned. But other than that I did not receive any relief from the cysto/hydro and it actually made the rest of my symptoms, including other types of pain, worse for quite a while.

How long is the recovery time for this type of procedure? I sure need to find something that will give some relief from the burning, stabbing and stinging pain.

A cysto/hydro would have to be performed for work to be done on hunners ulcers. So basically whatever amount of time to recover from the cysto/hydro. I don't know that there is a way to tell if having ulcers burned off during a hydro makes the recovery process longer, as the recovery from any cysto/hydro varies from person to person, and from hydro to hydro. And there is no guarantee that either will relieve the symptoms. May, may not. Seems to be about 50/50. Take care.
