I had a very bad afternoon yesterday, didn't hear from doc til late and so therefore didn't take my meds correctly I guess. I'm newly diagnosed and I had a call in to see if I could take pyridium more than he had originally said, anyway blah blah blah - he ended up telling me I could take it 3 x a day for a week then stop. I got some relief in between Mon. morn early and then yesterday pm - would that be the same flare up? Anyway, I'm on strickly plain water and a little bit of skim milk. I'm going to really watch and journal what I eat and study the diet.... SIGH - this is really overwhelming.

It can take a while to find exactly which foods and drinks are a problem for each individual. I hope you feel better very soon.

Warm healing thoughts,
Donna

Mikki...Like Donna said, it takes time to discover what foods and drinks you can tolerate. I have been working on this since August 2001. :D I have it mostly worked out but, every once in a while, something sneaks up on me.

Hope you are doing better. :)

Thank you for your replies. I've evened out, but still hurt - does that make sense?

I have a million questions - everything I put in my mouth, I wonder is this IC friendly? I feel like it's a waste of time asking anyone if this works or that doesn't because this is such a freaky disease being different on everyone....

I think I'm wallowing in self-pity... I'm not that kind, but I suppose I deserve a bit of it. I'll pull out soon. It's amazing how fast I've become a water drinker! I'm downing it and loving it knowing it's going to help somewhat at least...

Have you read about the diet in the Handbook? I'll give you the link and maybe that will help some.

http://www.ic-network.com/handbook/

Everyone is different so you will need to keep a food diary to help you figure this out.
Hang in there. I have had this for 29 years now and there is life with IC. It takes awhile sometimes and I have flares but you can have a very happy life, despite IC.:)

Thank you Jolene. You are so right. It's time to just take it step by step and figure it all out and quit feeling sorry for myself.... for the most part anyway:) Oh and I did read the diet, but it leaves so many questions too.

Hi Mikki, I know it is hard to find out what triggers the old IC to flare, it does take a while, and we have all been there and know how frustrating it can be. Do hope that you will start to feeling a little better soon, once you have the right combination of meds, self care, and diet, life does get better believe me, it just all takes time, and it is frustrating as can be. Take care, we all care, and let us know how you are doing, hugs Iris.:hi:   :grouphug:

Thanks guys, I am feeling a little better. I guess the pyridium, ditropan and muscle relaxers did the trick for now. And probably all the water I'm drinking too.

I shall take a deep breath now and go on about my business. I have 3 boys, one teen and two toddlers 3 and 4 yrs AND a husband and tons of stuff to do with church and teaching preschool and that's not even all that I'm involved in so I have plenty to take my mind off of it - you'd think anyway... Thanks again guys - you are all very sweet.

Mikki-have you tried the elimination diet? It can take awhile, but for some it works. It basically eliminates one type of food from your diet that may be giving you trouble. I'm not sure if there is one on this site, but if not, I can email it to you.

Thanks Jen, yes I'm interested in seeing the elimination diet, I don't think it was part of the patient handbook.

I have had IC for over 30 years and still I have to watch and I learn what to eat or drink. I had been drinking some ummy chocolate milk and I have been hurting so bad finally I thought Okay dummy what have you been doing differerent and I checked the bottle and it had Alkali in it. Wow. No wonder I was in pain. So today my pain is at its normal. Hugs
