Starting next week, my doctor wants me to give myself my own treatments twice a week at home. As a nurse I know I can cath patients, but on myself, I'm a bit nervous...Any suggestions?

Many of our ICer's do it & without any medical background. I think some use a mirror & some do it in the tub. I'm sure that you'll get the answers you need. Hugs, Kathi:thumbsup:

Many ICers do their own treatments. I did for a long time --- and it's not difficult after the first few.
You'll do fine.

i have been doing self cath at home for i think now six mths and have had no problem matter of fact i can and even my husband can give me a dmso without hurting me.
but when i'm in the office it always sent me in a flare and caused great pain.
at first i tried to do as they told me to use a mirror well that just got in my way i found it easier the second time i done it by standing over the tolit first i mix my medicine heparin and marcaine and 20cc of water mix in the clean cup then i shake it then i clean my self with an anti soap put ky jelly on the cath put it in drain the remaining urine out then put the thing on the end of the cath and pour the medicine in sit on the tolit and relax if i don't relax the medicine want go in. then i clean up wash my cath cup and other things i use and then soak them in white vinger and water for 20 mins then sit them out to dry.
i find it helps my bladder alot and much much easier to do it at home.
some people use a mirror and flash light so they can see but for some reason i have no problem with haveing to use that. Lucky I guess.
sending you hugs and prayers
I hope everything works out great for you I would use the flash light and mirror at first until you got use to it.

I am SCARED and I pleaded with the dr pls no I will come in as many times but I dont think emotionally I could handle it. Not yet. So gooooooood luck . I know I got alot of info from alot of the ladies here that do it and they gave some really great advice.
