(Editors Note - We are NOT familiar with this procedure nor theory. It has not been brought up within the context of IC at any conferences that we've attended. That said, it is interesting and something we would like to know more about. Is IC this syndrome?? We have no concrete evidence that proves that but it has apparently helped some women with pelvic pain. Please talk with your doctor about this if you think it might apply to you. - Jill O. ICN President)

I am not sure where to post this, here or in the PN section.

Today I had a procedure that is done, as far as I know, by one doctor in the US. He believes that certain pain syndromes, and sometimes IC, non-bacterial prostatitis, and IBS are cause in part by something akin to tendonitis and inflammation of the bones in the pubic area, plus myofascial trigger points.

I had steroid injections in various places and am in some pain now, as he told me I would be.

I thought I'd share, because if this works, I'd want to share my experience. It appears to have worked for a number of my IC/GYN nurse practitioner's patients.

Anyone interested in the procedure can google POPPS and Wasudev to see his site.

Please wish me luck! I'm still a little woozy, so sorry for an unclarity.

An update.

This first round did not help. I will try to talk to the NP who referred me to see if it's worth doing another.

The whole idea does seem promising, however. My NP and PT meet a few others in Nashville for monthy pelvic pain meetings. Both of them have sent patients who have done a lot better.

The doctr told me that (of course) I was in the 8-10% of patients he sees that have the internal signs he looks for, but not the external signs. He pushed on various tendons. potential trigger points on the top of my legs, etc. Most of his patients have pain there. I do not, so maybe I have something that does not respond to hsi treatment.

I think they did a study of his protocal in Sweden, but I am not 100% sure.

This week I am doing much better. Who knows if it was the treatment or one of my periodic times when the pain is not too bad. I have another one of the treatments on Thursday.

Well, I had my third of 3 injections last week. So far, my pain ha gone from a 4-6 to a 2-4. If this keeps up, I'll be more than satisfied with the procedures.

It really was interesting to feel him poking various external points on my bones and muscles and to feel pain. I asked if others felt pain in those places, and he said no. I did not feel pain in all the hot spots he checked.

I would discount this, but my PT and NP have told me that he tells people when he can not help them.

The other thing he did while I was on the 'twilight' medicine is do internal trigger point release. I did not even feel the long cardio-type needles going into my hips and pubic bone, but those trigger point releases made me jump out of my skin!

So, I think that may be part of my problem. I will not place a link to this doctor on the boards, but anyone who lives in Nashville is welcome to PM me if they want info on either this procedure or my NP or PT.

One final thought. I think a lot of us must have increased tolerance for pain. The doctor gave me a prescription for lortab and warned me about how much these injections were going to hurt when the anesthesia wore off. Well, they did, but certainly no more than the normal pain I'm in. So, I tolerate pain on a daily basis that is the equivalent of being poked with long needles in sensitive areas.

Please wish me well!
