I can't believe this! I have this new doctor I have been seeing since January. Supposed to be topnotch in IC. Dr. ****, in the **** Hospital Center. I have NEVER been treated so rudely in my life by a staff. I have to call 5-6 times to get refills, then go all the way to the pharmacy and they arent there. The nursing staff handles everything and I have only been able to speak to my doctor once, when I demanded some pain meds. She wants to take me off them. HELLO?? Do you know nothing about IC? So I called for my Elmiron refill last week, still no refills. And when I JUST called them the nurse Karen got on the phone and ACTUALLY had ATTITUDE with me, saying there were 4 refills and WHY WAS I CALLING AGAIN!? So I said I dont appreciate the attitude, and hung up. Called the Pharmacy AGAIN and STILL NO REFILLS! I have had it with this doctor and her staff. I am getting nowhere with treatment or support with them. I wish there was someway to report them so no one else uses them for IC treatment. Does anyone know of a GREAT IC doctor in the northern VA area, Washington DC or heck I would even be willing to drive to Baltimore!? I would appreciate it if anyone had any advice here. I called back one more time to ask for the doctor to let her know how rudely I was treated AGAIN by her staff, and this time they told me she was out and her voice mail was full. OUTRAGEOUS. Grrrrrr! Sorry I just needed to VENT! I am done with them this is ridiculous!

:hi: Thanks for writing back. I am so frustrated with the doctors in this area. It seems like no one understands IC or how to help it. I have done most of my healing on my own through reading books and these websites! I went on the IC diet myself, have gone to physical therapy for 3 months now for pelvic floor. I do everything I CAN to help me and the only thing I REALLY need from these doctors are refills! IT's not like they can cure me hahaha. But it would be nice to just have an understanding doctor who knew what was out there to help and not some a villianous nursing staff, man they are straight up RUDE. I wish they knew what it felt like not to be able to pee like a normal person, not to fall down on your knees when the pain hits so hard, not be able to have sex when you want, and mostly know what it's like to not get the treatment YOU NEED ASAP. UGH! Vent vent vent. Sorry I am ranting but my blood is boiling. hahaha
Morgan thanks for the post, and I see you are a fellow MAHJONG fan! Me too!
THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME RANT HERE> I NEEDED THAT!

This may or may not be the case for you, but I've had cases where the pharmacy was not allowed to honor the refills the doctor put on the prescription for one reason or another (usually legal reasons). The doctor thinks there are refills, the pharmacy says there aren't refills, and they're both correct from their point of view. It took me a long time to find the right person to tell me that the refills were discarded due to the law (having to do with drug class or crossing state lines). Then I had to explain the law to the doctor & that the refills prescribed no longer existed.

I know exactly how you feel. My Uro is not the only uro in his practice there is a bunch, but supposly he is the only one knowledable in IC and the only one in my area that does Interstim implants. When I call to get a adjustment it can take a week or longer for them to call be back and set up appointments and he just refuse to give me any more pain pills. The last time I asked him for any was 2 1/2 mths ago. He or his nurse said there is a new law about not being able to write pain meds after having an interstim adjustment they have to wait 6 weeks, and told me to go to a pain mang. dr. the stim has never help with the pain I have. I also have problems with my stim and they just ignore it. I had an auto accident in oct of last year (2 rear end wrecks in same day) and my stim has been messed up since. And no one has made any x=rays or anything. They say just because I still feel the stimulation it is okay. but they are rude to me and I feel like since I have the stim they no longer want to help me. Best of luck

I'm sorry that your urologist's nurses are giving you a hard time. I don't call the doc when I need refills. I call my pharmacy & let them call the doctor. Maybe you could try this?

BTDT, I'm so sorry for your frustration!

The staff at my uro's office can be a real pain in the tush too!
In fact the nurses have all told me that I should NOT be taking opioids this long. They say I am ruining my body etc.... They come right out and say my uro is WRONG for prescribing them to me.

I know they say these things because he is the only uro in there that goes to all the IC physician seminars and he is the ONLY one there that will prescribe narcotics for IC.

These nurses have played doctor with me.
They have refused to refill my meds, have changed my appt. times at the last minute (in hopes that I wouldn't make it there) etc..... They are just maddening!!!

I even had one medical assistant give me a dmso treatment once. I am certain that she was rough on purpose. I went home in tears and hurt so bad that I had to go to the ER two nights later!
She had NO business giving me a treatment as she is NOT and R.N.
I did report this to the clinic administrator. Never heard back though!

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I hope things simmer down for you real soon!! I DO feel your pain and anger!
