is it bad to take it long term? It's 200 mg, 90 tablets. I asked my urologist and she said there's nothing wrong with taking it long term since I don't have a UTI. But I can't help but be afraid of the warnings I have read about it online, about it being bad for your health to keep taking it for more than 2 days. It says take once three times a day, but all I needed was 1 for the whole day, and boy what a relief it was from the flare I was having though! It would be a real shame if I can't keep on taking this medicine regularly :(

I've been told by both my URO and Pharmacist (who I trust more than anyone) that its safe to take as needed.
If you're still concerned, by all means question your DR and pharmacist again for reassurance.

Ugh, wow, it seemed to work well the first day and now suddenly, it does not work anymore just after my second day of using it. So much for Phenazopyridine then. Should I give Urelle a try? Does anyone know if that works well with controlling urgency and frequency? I'm a male btw if that makes any difference.

I have both Pyridium and Utira-C rx and find out of the two, Utira-C works the best. Having said that, neither takes away the urgency/frequency for me; they just take the edge off where its a bit more tolerable.

Wishing you well...

Both my doctor and urologist approved me to take pyridium as needed. I am currently exploring the world of antispasmodics. The following i have tried with no luck: ditropan, prosed ds, vesicare.....first 2 caused retention and i did not noice a difference from vesicare. I currently take elavil 25mg at night, am doing weekly instillations of heparin, lots of heat when needed, macrodantin as a uti preventative, plenty of water, and ic diet. I am also seeing a psychologist to work on coping skills for this disease. I hope you find some relief soon.
