Hello everyone! I was just put on Elmiron this past Friday and I have also received 2 instills w/Elmiron, Lidocaine and Sodium Bicarb.

I have read that a lot of people are also given Elavil and some anti-histamines. I want to bring these up w/my doctor next time I see him.

I do feel my symptoms have gotten slightly better from the instills, but I still have vaginal discomfort and pressure. My doctor said he believes this is nerve related. Does Elavil work for nerves? Do you all think Elavil would work for my vaginal issues? I also have urethral discomfort, but that seems to have gotten slightly better.

These boards are really great and are a life saver! Thank you ALL for your support!

Hope everyone has a pain-free day!!

I definitely recommend people try antihistamines, either mild (Quercetin) or stronger (Vistaril, Benadryl). They helped me tremendously.

It's highly likely that your discomfort is caused by upset nerves. And Elavil is for nerves, sometimes used for depression too. They have two meds that are just for nerve pain, Lyrica and Cymbalta. I can vouche that Cymbalta works well, with few side effects.

Elavil works for pain. It was the first thing I was put on. Its good, the only thing it made me crave sugar. But I would rather be fat with no pain than skinny and miserable:smile tee

I have taken Atarax (Hydroxyzene) for about the last 16 years for itching.
And I still do to this day , It unfortunatly doesn't do anything for my IC , I was just given an official diagnosis for IC 2 weeks ago.

Can't take Elavil , had a Violent reaction to it in 1983.
Won't risk another Anti Dep for that reason.

Tried Lyrica and Cymbalta for Fibromyalgia pain afew years ago.
It was ineffective for that , so I discontinued them.
( on them 1 at a time , not both at once).

I take Elmiron , but the side effects are getting Bad.
So will have to stop and call the Uro doctor.
The Darpaz doesn't seem to do much , Yet , either.
Except Blue urine and stool.

I am unsure what I can do next. Hope the Urologist has Encouraging news.
