I have been on ditropan for a little over a week now. I feel so much better, I usually only have a flare once a day or every other day for a half hour. THe problem is that it has been causing the typical side effects. I am going to start detrol-LA instead. How long has detrol taken to start working for you guys? My dr. said It should take a month... Not looking forward to another month of symptoms till it kicks in, but she said it has lower side effects.

Hi I am in New Zealand,
and I take Detruisitol which I think is the same as Detrol. I am on 2mgs twice a day, I seem to flare up around ovulation and strees related I think. The Detruisitol helps make the symptoms more managable dosnt make them go away as such, and yes it takes a good month to start working the way it should.
In New Zealand this is not a govenment funded medication so I have to pay full costs on my own which is $45 per forghtnight.

I was first prescribed Detrol but for what ever reason, it raised my blood pressure so I tried Ditropan. I believe it works even better for me than Detrol but now I have another problem with my IC. My bladder is not emptying completely so I was prescribed Flomax which is usually prescribed for men with prostate trouble. I guess it is becoming regularly used for both men and women for the problem of bladders not emptying completely. It worked well for me but I cannot afford all of these meds even with a drug card. I settle for Elmiron which I could not live without. I cannot imagine life without that drug. It would be intolerable.

I've had no luck with either one of them.

I have tried Detrol/ditropan as well as Vesicare Enablex which all helped for awhile-but after being on all of these meds I noticed that I wasn't emptying my bladder as well. The doctor put me on Urecholine (25mg twice daily) don't know the brand name but its an "old" drug. I still have some problems but it seems to be helping.
