I have has IC (or something like it) for 5 years now. It has almost always ony been associated with urethral pain, though vulvar vestibulitis developed in 2006.

I am having a very bad flare up, and now the pain does appear to have moved to my bladder. I am curious about this (as well as distraught). My first doctors said the pain in the urethra could be referred from bladder. Now I'm thinking my painful urethra is just sending pain up higher.

Maybe I want to think this bc I don't want new symptoms to deal with. I have never had the frequency. Even now, though the pain can be worse when the bladder is full, I don't feel different before or after urinating.

Has anyone else had this type of pain pattern? If so, did the bladder pain die when the urethral flare ended?

have you been checked for urethra spasms? I had horrible ones, and my doctor perscribed flomax to help calm them. I also have VV, so I use an estrogen cream to help sooth the skin.

I juststarted Flomax on Thursday. THe newish bladder pain is much better, but the urethra still hurts like crazy. Has it worked for you? If so, how long did it take?

How do you get checked for urethral spasms? I have often wondered if I had them.
