Hi! Anyone have any success with Macro.bid? I have had a UTI since my cysto 3 weeks ago. Augmentin didn't do the trick, neither did Cipro. The Urologist called back to inform me that my UTI is still there!! He is prescribing Macrobid. Any one out there have luck with this antibiotic? :(

Microbid is what my uro always gives me for a UTI and it has worked for me. I did take Augumentin a few weeks ago. My regulard MD gave it to me. He said I had a sinus infection and a UIT and the augumentin would work for both. I haven't been checked since then, so hopefully, it worked.

I just ended a 5 day run of Macrobid following my cystoscopy/hydro. Unfortunately it made me really itchy and nauseous. I hope it works out well for you, and if not, you can find a good a/b :)

I take Macrobid/Macrodantin on a regular basis and it works very well; though not as well as it used to it seems.
I've been on it a week......going for a 3 month long term to see if I can wipe out almost 3 years of UTI's and I woke up this morning with ANOTHER UTI so I give up......I just don't get it anymore:confused:

Hi Teri,
Hang in there... maybe after a week the meds aren't fully in your system yet?

Hi,
I just wanted to post this story about my experience with the antibiotic Leviquin. My doctor put me on it about 5 years ago for a UTI infection. This was before my IC diagnosis. I had already taken Cipro, microbid, microdantin, and augmenten and nothing was working. I still had an infection, not a bad, one but a tough one to get rid of. Anyway, as a last resort he put me on the Levaquin. Within 48 hours of taking it I had a major psychotic reaction to it. I felt like I was living inside a bubble and my skin would crawl and I would hyperventilate and then I had an anxiety attack that ended with me trying to jump on the Enon Bridge. (It's a major bridge crossing the James River in Virginia. I was lucky enough that a concerned motorist jumped out his car and grabbed me before I jumped. I ended up in the physco ward for two weeks and was suicidal for about 2 months after that. I couldn't leave the house without someone with me at all times and even at home I had to be watched because when they turned their backs I was slicing and dicing my wrist. It all came down as a result of a reaction to the Levaquin mixed with the intense pain I was having from the IC, which I didn't know I had, then. The doctors all told me the pain in my bladder was all in my head.
Later, months after I was better, I was reading an article in the paper where another woman had the same experience using the same antibiotic. Her experience and symptoms were so identical to mine it was scary.
I hope anyone taking this drug will really monitor what they are feeling. My symptoms started with tingling hands and then dizziness and then losing my breath and then I had one repetitive thought that kept playing over and over in my head until it drove me mad, literally.
So please be careful taking any kind of new drug. Us folks on IC are no strangers to taking multiple drugs and dealing with so many different doctors, they can't keep up with all we are taking.
This is quite the battle we are up against.

Oh I am so sorry IBNPAIN that you went through that.
I want to remind everyone that we should always be careful but that this case is unique.

Liznazz, I do seem to respond better to macrobid than any of the other antibiotics. Only thing is, since I began taking it, if I get off I'm right back in the UTI situation. I don't really understand what's going on. Hope you get to feeling better. I know UTI business is terribly painful. Best wishes and prayers.

I just want to tell people that are on Macrobid (Macrodantin) that there was info years ago that this medication could make IC symptoms worse. It may be in Dr. Gillespie's book for those who have it. Just watch your symptoms closely to make sure they are not coming from this medication.

I've now been taking Macrobid for more than 2 months out of a 3 month course to try to let my bladder calm down and prevent any more UTIs (6 in the past year).
So far, I feel better than I have since before getting IC to begin with. I'm not sure what will happen after I stop taking it. I may have a cysto/hydro, or I may just see how I feel off the abs. I am scared of feeling sick again, but also nervous about taking so much antibiotics.
I just feel so much better than I did before taking it that I'll keep doing it if I need to.

Hi,
I am new here but have been suffering for years. No one would believe me. Mydr. now is treating me with a series of medications that is injected directly into my bladder. I gop once a week for 6 weeks, then one a month. I am on my second treatment, so far it has helped more than anything else. I will out the name of the meds and let you know.
