I did my presentation this morning and it went well! Wasn't so sure it would work out well, as I am still dealing with residual pain from that UTI I had, plus my IC is flaring up some due to stress over the presentation. It REALLY got mad when it realized 200 people had shown up for my lecture, let me tell you... but I did my best to ignore it, and got through the presentation without too much trouble. My bladder was screaming for mercy by the end, but my angel of a lab technician gathered up my laptop and everything for me so I could dash to the restroom :)
Anyway, it is over, and hopefully now I can relax a bit and finish healing ;)
I'm just happy I didn't have to dash out in the middle of the talk...

What type of presentation?

I am a scientist, so periodically I have to present my current research to my colleagues... it was basically a 50-minute presentation with background info, results of current experiments, and plans for future experiments. There was also a question/answer discussion period for 10 minutes at the end... you are supposed to use this time to get constructive advice from your audience, which doesn't always happen.
It can be stressful....especially since the audience was large this time (about 200-250 people) and also, I have one of those types of bosses that is never satisfied with anything and always looks for something to grouch about. However, this time he said everything went very well, which was a definite improvement :)
Sending hugs,

Hey Blue,
That's great about your daughter loving science... I always love to hear about little girls who love science! Science is still a bit of a "boys' club" (although more and more women are entering the field and gaining respect these days), so I love to encourage young girls to pursue scientific careers! :) :)
Sending hugs to you and your daughter,
What kind of presentation did you give? What subject?
What type of scientist are you?

I do cancer research. :)
Our lab is particularly interested in the molecular biology and genetics of cancer. We investigate how damage to the DNA in cells can lead to the development of various cancers, and we try to modulate DNA repair pathways that naturally occur in cells to see if we can make the pathways more effective -- if so, this could perhaps make the cells more resistant to damage, and less likely to become cancerous, which would be a very good thing.
We also study chemotherapy and radiation (my particular interest is radiation biology) to see if we can make them more effective at treating tumors.
My presentation focussed on recent experiments I've done to show that a particular drug I've been working with modulates these DNA repair pathways.
Your profession is so enteresting! I know it must be exciting to see those results!
I'm going to have to let my daughter read this! I love for her to see women doing something that really enterests them.
