I've really learned lot this week. After waking up Tuesday morning with vertigo and nausea with strained neck muscles, I called my doctor's office --- they managed to work me in on the same day (I really, really like my primary care doc!) After telling me my neck muscles were extremely tight, they did some x-rays in the office and found the muscles were tight enough to pull my upper spine to one side. He put me on valium to help relax the muscles and referred me for physical therapy and, because of the dizziness, for an ultrasound on my carotids.
The valium helped, physical therapy is helping loosen the muscles and a TENS unit is also helping. It's been a miserable, sleep-most-of-the-time week, but I finally am feeling better. I know it's going to take a while, but the dizziness at least is gone. Wish me luck --- we're going to a 50th anniversary dinner this evening that we really can't get out of.
I think this was a good reminder for me that I need to practice what I preach. I always tell everyone to see their doctors at the beginning of any new symptom --- yet I waited until my neck was so bad I couldn't stand it before I listened to my own preaching!
If you have a minute, send along a wish that the ultrasound results will be okay and that I continue to improve.
Warm hugs to everyone,
Donna
