About 4 years ago, I started taking the birth control Depo Provera. I was on it because of heavy periods. I was never told about the side effects at all. About a year after taking it, my body went through a lot of changes. I was diagnosed with IBS. Then I had gallbladder disease and my gallbladder was removed. I felt better after that. Then in the 3rd year, I developed IC. I have a strong feeling that this, and my other problems were caused my my hormones being out of whack from the Depo. Has anyone had any similar cases like this?

People say "don't believe everything you see on the internet," but honestly it was a wake up call I needed because I was in denial. How could something as wonderful to take away periods be so bad? I keep seeing many cases of girls with the exact problems from Depo. It's better to take charge of your health, than do nothing at all.

I'm going to talk to my doctor in a few weeks about stopping Depo and getting a bone density test. If I find out I have osteoperosis too, I'm gonna be ******.:cussing: I'm not sure what I can do to stop the heavy periods, but I don't want to get more diseases or worse, die from this shot.

My IC started when I stopped birth control pills I'd been on for years to regulate horrible periods. My mom's bladder pain started when she stopped taking her hormone replacement therapy. I think for many of us, IC is hormone related, but no one can figure out if we need more or less medicine to intervene...

Is that shot pure progesterone by any chance?

I had IC-like symptoms for the first time when I was on Micronor, a progesterone-only mini pill. My problems resolved for years and years when I went off the pill with no other treatment and I went back to chili peppers and chardonnay. Progesterone in particular seems like it can be very hard on the bladder. I would really consider going off it for a while and see if this could be a factor in your symptoms and see if you feel better. It may take a several months for your system to rebalance....

Progesterone dominance can cause bladder infections as well as the sensation of having a bladder infection from what I read on the 'net.

Not sure your other health issues, but could you try another low dose bcp w/estrogen? They can help with heavy bleeding if you get the right one. Ask your doc.

My birth control contains "medroxyprogesterone acetate, a derivative of progesterone." So, I'm guessing it has the same effects. If I stop the bc, it will take at least a year to get out of my system. Which makes me believe it is just too potent for my body. I will probably stop this shot for good.

Thanks for the advice. I will ask about the low dose pill with estrogen.
