Okay, my vet says I should brush the cat's teeth. I tried yesterday, got the cat in a headlock & brushed away. She thought I was a total freak! I think she liked the seafood paste but couldn't figure out what the heck I was doing with the brush. Is this really necessary? (At least she doesn't need floss!) :cat:

Hi, you are luckier than I am, there is no way I can brush T.J's teeth, its a full scale operation to clip his nails. I do give him for treats, tartar control tuna treats, and I think that helps his teeth to keep cleaner, they look O.K. when he yawns, I sorta have a look inside. Hope you can keep brushing your cats pearly whites, good luck Iris.:cat:

It takes 2 people to brush our two dogs...............our cat NO WAY she would rip us to treads. I guess hers will just have to fall out.

You're a brave one, Kadi,

I have enough trouble using a syringe and giving liquid medicine to my cats when the need arises that I wouldn't even dream of trying to use a toothbrush on them--If the teeth have to be cleaned the vet will have to do it.

Hugs & blessings to you--:cat:

It's better if you can brush the kitty's teeth... healthier! They can develop gum inflammation that is so painful they cannot eat properly.

I brush my kitty's teeth. You might try using some gauze wrapped around your finger instead of those kitty tootbrushes. This is sometimes more tolerable than the brush. Start small... just rub the teeth and gums in one small place in the mouth for a minute or two, then quit and give kitty a treat. Repeat in a different place the next day, etc. Often this slow method helps kitty get used to having somebody messing with his/her mouth... you may find that you'll be able to do the whole mouth after a while.

However, some cats just will NOT accept this-- in that case, your vet can check the mouth and if necessary, clean the teeth while kitty is sedated...
