We can have chips?

Yeah! If you get organic chips (or whatever), look at the ingredients. If it just says potato, salt and oil, it should be O.K. if you can normally eat those items. Also, try Fritoes. Delicious! Only corn products as ingredients. No additives or preservatives. They aren't that good for you, but if you just want a treat, try them. Also at this time of year, a delicious piece of ice cold watermelon (if you can) is beyond good. Same with a nice cold slab of green melon. I'm sure alot of people are going to give you alot of good ideas. That helps all of us.

perhaps this is a new topic for another thread however, what preservatives seem to be the worst offenders for the bladder.

Yes to popcorn! When I was on a really strict diet popcorn was my go-to snack. To make myself feel special I started buying fancy organic red popping corn or organic multicolor popcorn. I pop it on the stove with just a little corn oil, and use only salt. When I discovered I could tolerate a little sharp cheese I would sometimes grate a little hard salty cheese like parmesan or pecorino onto the popcorn instead of salt. Very tasty. Imho, more real corn flavor than microwave popcorn, and it even seems healthy!
I was able to eat red licorice or twizzlers when I first started watching my diet, but I'm pretty sure there's nothing remotely real in them. I don't think I am additive sensitive, though, so I would be careful about that! Maybe they are just solid plastic and don't even qualify as food? No problem, then!
If you do okay with pears, try an apple. That was my second fruit, and it was really nice to know I could eat that for a snack. I often have a handful of lightly salted almonds for a snack.
Panda black licorice is really good & no problem ingredients (for me at least).
Honeydew melon is my new favorite thing (so happy to find a fruit that's not a pear & is ok for me).

My mom just made me homemade carmel corn.... it was so good and safe!!
I think she said the carmel was just brown sugar, soda and butter...yummmm!
Since Gala apples got moved to the safe list I made some homemade apple bars (like pie in bar form) with safe ingredients. (Of course I topped it off with vanilla ice cream as well.) I did great with those too- yeah!!! That truly made my day... it's the little things you know!!
**Just beware of the shortening if you make a pie crust... Crisco had asorbic acid. I used a store brand (Jewel) that had safe ingredients.**

You can also make pie crust using canola oil. It's not as flakey as when you use butter but it does still work pretty well!
I love fruit and although I am sad to not be able to eat very many, I love blueberries and watermelon! I seem to do fine with both of those. I'm also glad we can have rice. I eat so much rice! haha

I love Golden Oreos. Not sure if everyone could tolerate them, but they are fine for me. I also really enjoy black jellybeans.

I love cheesy potatoes, you slice potatoes up and put them in corning wear and then add a creamcheese-cottage cheese-any other yummy cheese you can tolerate-milk/cream(if you don't mind the fat) mixture, some salt and pepper, garlic, herbs if you like, cook and you top it off with mozzarella cheese, and bake until the potatoes are soft and yummy. It's the same comfort as mac and cheese, but I can eat it :)

I also love these organic peanut butter cookies I found:)
Btw, they're called "Back to Nature" and I've found them at Kroger's, Walmart and Giant Eagle if anyone's interested. They don't have many ingredients.

Homemade Tollhouse cookies w/ white chocolate chips, baked Kettle chips, Bryer's vanilla icecream w/ whip cream, coconut cream pie, CHEESECAKE, Lindt white truffles. Healthier: honeydew melon & blueberry salad, all natural peanut butter on a brown rice cake. Wow, my unhealthy list is longer. :o)

Me too. It's terrible. I get them out almost every night with a glass of milk. And I wonder why I'm not losing any weight
I remembered too, that I like triscuits with low fat cream cheese (the brick stuff) or triscuits with low fat cottage cheese on them.

I bought a food dehydrator and dry my own pears. They make a wonderful snack, are easily transported, and are chewy - and they don't bother my bladder.

I love string cheese-it's just mozzarella so it's safe. I also like organic tortilla chips with jack cheese melted on top (like nachos). Great snack.
I also bring dry organic cereral like Puffins into work to snack on. I also found these great orgainic lightly salted pumpkin seeds made by Gerbs. They are addictive!!
Can you tell I like salt?!! Everyone else seems to have a sweet-tooth!
Hkay66-do you have the recipe for the apple bars you mentioned? They sound fabulous!! I'd love to try them!
Landish-also love the Lindt white chocolate truffles. I loved the chocolate ones before I had IC, and was so excited that they make the white chocolate ones. I love the liquid center....yummy!!
Oreo also makes golden oreo sticks that are cookie tubes with the icing filling in the middle. Sandies Simply Shortbread cookies are fabulous if you like butter cookies. they also make the pecan sandies as well.

When I am hurting, nothing makes me happier than a vanilla milkshake from Steak and Shake.
My new favorite thing is to make a very mild "taco" salad. I use romaine lettuce as a base, then put broken tortilla chips (Padrino's - ingredients are corn, salt, oil) on top, ground beef 95% lean cooked with diced red bell peppers, oregano & garlic, and grated mozzarella on top. If you're ok with black olives, a few of those sliced on top would be good also. I add a little Marie's lite creamy ranch diluted with nonfat milk drizzled across it, very small amount. YUM!
Hi Kadi,
You've given so many good suggestions for meal ideas! I can't tell you how many of your recipes I've printed lately for meal ideas to try. It's great-thanks for all the wonderful suggestions:)

Kadi,
that salad sounds awsome. I make tacos using the same ingredients you listed...they sound great in a salad. You can also bake a tortilla over a bowl in the oven to get the "taco salad torilla bowl" shape like in restaurants. Also if you add a little milk to cream cheese and process it, you can use that in place of sour cream. it works great!

If you have a Fresh and Easy Market near you, they have these white chocolate covered almonds that are delicious and satisfying. They have become my new movie treat when all of my friends are gorging on stuff from the snack bar!
-Kristy :)
Nachos with sea salt rice chips (Lundberg Family Farms), organic whole canned pinto and black beans, lean ground turkey (seasoned/cooked with leeks, Italian seasonings and sea salt), frozen corn, sliced black olives, and shreeded mozarella/cheddar rice cheese (Galexy Nutritional Foods). I don't eat any dairy and I can still have incredibly delicious nachos!
Warm, gooey almond butter on spelt toast right out of the toaster.
Guacamole (avocado + sea salt) and sea salt rice chips (see above).
Organic popcorn with olive oil (Trader Joe's).
Almonds, dry roasted and unsalted.

Does anyone know if there has been any studies (threads?) involving food allergies associated with IC?
Thanks

Well I have been experimenting to find some IC friendly foods. Well I recently tried a whole food brand...named Back To Nature. So far I have tried and happily tolerated the cheez its, wheat thins, oatmeal cookies, and blueberry jelly. You can order some of the snack foods online. I was amazed how good the food tasted with no preservatives. I just thought I would spread the word...since we are all so unique on what we can tolerate. Also, I have been able to tolerate wheat thin flatbread garlic and parsley crackers with cream cheese.

Breyer's dulce de leche ice cream- I am truly addicted. Triscuits with string cheese, Mom's Best cereals ( no artificial preservatives or colors ), steel cut oatmeal with a few raisins, brown sugar, and almonds, Shearer's honey wheat pretzels. Oh, and Auntie Ann's bunny grahams.
