IBS for 20yrs. July 10th I was diagnosed with IC. Problem? Super sensitive to meds. Hosp. 4 times in the last month. Treid Elmiron, Percacet, Toradol, Morphine, Levbid, Loestrin, Detrol, Cipro, Diladed, Fentyl, Pyridium +, Neurontin, Amitriptyline, Atarax. Ranged from suicidal thoughts to what they thought was a heart attack . I have severe diarrhea I have lost 20 # & have passed out. ER shows it is the meds & besides the IBS/IC, I am in great shape! On my 2nd DMSO Installation & after yesterday's, I had muscle aches & nausea. I have right quadrant abdominal pain Immodium makes Urethra close up. My IC is not urgency, it is pain. The doc wants me to do the installations for another 4 weeks, try CystoProtek, Benadryl , stay on the Pro/Prebiotics to help my IBS & 1/2 Percacet if the pain gets out of control. Using Tens & heat patches . I use 1/2 a Valium to settle my nerves if I have to. I have also tried Yoga and Acupunture. Any advice?

that sounds really rough, I'm sorry you've had so much trouble. I'm not sure how severe your ibs and ic is but have you tried the diet at all? I suspect I have IBS so I've been looking a lot into it lately, and I have ic, so I know combining the diets is REALLY restrictive, but it's been helping me. Especially the diet suggestions for IBS really helped reduce my diahrea.

I'm not sure what else to suggest it seems like you covered so many options. Good luck though, I'm sure you'll find something that works for you.

Yes, the diet I am on is actually just rice, noodles, chicken broth and water. This is to try to calm the IBS. I have never actually eaten anything acidic to begin with due to the IBS so this whole thing has been a shock to me. I have always eaten bland foods and only drink water and have been tested and cleared for gluten intolerance and Celiac (sp?) disease. I also eat Matzo crackers. Do you know if we can have organic peanut butter? I actually hate it, but it is a protein...............

Hi,
I eat Almond Butter and do ok. They recently moved peanut butter to the safe list but it was considered a no no for a long time... do you have the Food list from this site?
http://www.ic-network.com/diet/dietcheatsheet.html My IBS got a lot better on this... Have you checked your water? I drink fiji and have tested my water at home and it's safe, I've seen that a lot of people have success on Aquafina. Is your chicken broth IC safe? EVERYONE is different though and it can take time sometimes A LOT of time to figure out what works best for your body.

Note from ICNDonna: Before trying NAET, I suggest reading the information at http://quackwatch.org/search/webglimpse.cgi?ID=1&query=NAET
Hi there,

I have a drug sensitivity too!! I thought I was the only one out there battling this with a drug sensitivity.

My IC is mild. I don't take any drugs at all. But, I would like to take some prescriptions so that I will not have to sit in pain all day. My drug/chemical sensitivity comes from my Fibromyalgia :(

Anyway, to try to battle the sensitivity, I have been doing NAET.

It has helped me a lot.. especially with my allergies. I can now take tylenol with codeine (without itching!) and I no longer take allergy medicine for seasonal allergies that have bothered me for years. Most of my fibro pain has gone away too!

I'd be happy to tell you more.. feel free to PM me!

Thank you for posting your question - I thought I was the only one sensitive to medication.

I purchased a Pur water filter, so I think I am ok on that. I was using bottled water, but someone told me the chemicals from the plastic was not a good thing. I also boil my own chicken to get the broth. Anyone ever tried Shaklee Alfalfa? I am told it is a anti-inflammitory? Wish me luck. Tonight I am going to try 1/2 of a Percacet since it is a long weekend, in case I get sick from it. I would like to have it as an emergency medication!

It sounds like your doctor is on the right track.

Warm healing thoughts,

The first thing that came to mind was trying physical therapy for the pelvic floor. I have had great success w/ PT & know of many others who have done well also. If your insurance allows it, maybe ask your dr. for a script & find a therapist who specializes in this kind of PT. Feel better!

icgennifer, I go to Erica Fletcher in Narberth, Pa. I can give you her # if you'd like. I waited three months to see her.

I have crazy drug sensitivities too. You are not alone! I did however (after what seemed like forever), find some medications that worked for me. I do not know if you have tried this, but often my dr. puts me on a low dose (too low to be effective), and then increases it to an effective one. That way, my body has time to get used to the medicine and is not too inundated with it.

Donna, what are your thoughts on Shaklee Pre/probiotics and IC?
