Once a yeast infection really gets going, the itchiness and burning are unmistakable!!
 "oohh!! oohhh!! Ohh, my goodness!!"
You just know...
But if you are even a little itchy, have vaginal burning or unusual drainage, you should mention it to your doctor. You can treat them yourself with over the counter stuff, but the first time, I suggest you talk to your doctor so she/he can tell you all the other stuff... Like wear cotton underwear, loose clothing. Avoid hot baths. Take panties off at night to decrease moisture...
Also, In my experience, the oral med (by prescription) is more effective than the stuff you insert into the vagina. For me, the infection always came back with that stuff. Caution though, I always throw up a few times the next day with the Diflucan pill. :( But that is just me. The pill knocks it out and so I still prefer it even though I always get sick. Now, I just call or e-mail my PCP and she calls in a prescription for me and I clear my schedule for the next day.
Best wishes Kiyoka!!

If you've never had a yeast infection before, getting a diagnosis from your physician is a must. After that first time, it's not as hard to know for yourself if it comes back.
Sending healing thoughts,

totally agree with donna, get a dx first.
i had my very first yeast infection a few weeks ago. had stuff that looked like goat cheese. no itching, but some soreness. called the doc, they did a wet mount, gave me an rx cream. seems to have worked. luckily  i also developed a bacterial infection afterward and now am being treated for that too. it's been a bad month. t. s. eliot was right. april sucks.

I used to have tons of yeast infections in my 20's and 30's. I'd itch like crazy. For me it was extremely itchy. This discharge was thin with flecks of white. Even today, if I take any kind of antibiotic, I get a yeast infection. I like the new diflucan, I always ask for that if I need to take an antibiotic.

For those of you who take diflican how many do you take to get rid of infection just one pill?
Hi, I have had to take just the one pill Diflucan for yeast infection, I think it is supposed to stay in your system quite a while. I know it has worked for me, I have had to take it for a couple of yeast infections, in the past. Iris.:hi:
