Hi, I hope everyones doing well :)
My urologist was going to put me on Elmiron, but he decided to put me on the antibiotic trimethropim for 6 months instead at first. This is because my IC has been caused by a hormonal imbalance so I've got some other drugs for that to see if it helps rectify the bladder issues. Also, as well as IC, I get recurrent UTI's and have had 2 kidney infections this year, he wants to be UTI free and to make sure my kidneys are healthy for 6 months before starting Elmiron, as it's quite an invsave drug.
Since taking the trimethropim, I feel like my bladder has got worse. It's reduced my frequency (which was never a huge issue for me in the first place), the urgency still bothers me slightly but not a lot, and the constant dull ache in my bladder/pelvis - but when I need to pee it's 10 x more painful than it used to be, and it always used to be pretty painful. I find myself lying down in the bathroom for 5 minutes after I'm finished just to let the pain subside. I've started taking a stress ball into the toilet with me because thats how painful it is :(
Should I speak to my urologist and get him to put me on Elmiron straight away? Can anyone share any similar stories with trimethropim?
