View Full Version : recovering from a UTI
Hi. I was feeling hopefull after 6 weeks of elmiron and elmiron installations. I just developed a UTI from the catherization and am feeling awful. The antibiotic should have worked by now so I think the whole bladder damage thing has happened and I have to start all over.
It is very depressing to be making progress and then get an infection!
How long does it usually take to return to "baseline" after a UTI?

IF your on the right anti it should only take 7-14 days for the infection to clear up your doctor will take another urine sample to make sure its clear and you can start right back up where you left off at with treatments.
i'm so glad to hear they are working for you.
but so sorry you got a nasty uti i'm porn to those painful things:( just an idea which will help you from getting another one after each treatment have them to give you an sample of anti from the office just to be safe one should do it after each treatment.
my doctor when i had them done in the office would send me home with a sample of Leviquin.
sending you hugs and prayers
i really pray your uti is gone soon i know how painful those things can be.

Does anyone get an antibiotic as part of their "cocktail" installation? I read about Dr. Whitmore doing this. This might keep the possibility of yeast infections down and prevent an infection from the catherization.
Also, I was put on a 4 day CIPRO XR. That doesn't seem enough.I wonder if it's safe to do my installation on Monday when I finish the antibiotic tommorrow.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Indy

I don't know if it is safe to do the instill so close to the infection... I'd call your doctor about that one.
However, I can totally sympathize with what you are going through right now. On Thursday I was feeling horrible, and thought it was a bad, bad IC flare, so I went to my uro's to get a DMSO instill to try to get it under control, as my oral meds weren't working... they didn't do it because it turned out I had a raging UTI. I have been miserable for the past 3-4 days. I'm on Levaquin until the culture comes back on Monday... I'm starting to feel better, but there is still quite a bit of pain, etc.
UTIs on top of IC are the WORST. I hope you feel better soon :grouphug: :grouphug:

when i use to take them at the office my doctor ALWAYS gave me a sample of Leviquin to take when I got home to try to stop an infection before it started.
