My problem is a pfd with lots of spasm, so my doc gave me a rx for Urelle. It seems to help really well, but I have heard again and again that Urelle makes the urin acidic.

I am spending so much time and effort to follow the IC diet, at at the same time I take a medication which kind of counteracts all my diet efforts????

Does anybody know how Urelle and IC diet go together???

I've taken Urelle every day for a couple of years now. It helps me tremendously.

Thanks for your reply. Good to hear that you can take it for years!!!

I took it a few days now and I can say that it definitely works for me - less frequent and better flow.

The only thing that concerns me is the acidity of my urine because of all the effort I put into the IC diet.

Did you ever talk to your doctor about this issue with Urelle?

Or has anybody out there???

I had never heard of Urelle --- or any of its sister drugs, such as Utira-C, Prosed DS, etc. --- causing the urine to be acidic. If it does, it doesn't bother mea at all. I don't know what I would do without Urelle, and I hope I never have to find out.

If it helps you, don't be concerned about whether it makes your urine acidic. Stick to the diet, and continue with any meds that help make your symptoms bearable. :)

I looked up Urelle online on WebMD and it does say urelle makes the urine more acidic for the medicine to work. You would think that this med then would not be IC-safe so I have been afraid to try it although it seems to help lots of people on here. I have free samples and I still need to get the courage to try it. I was so sick of pyridium and the orange pee and that it really didn't seem to do much for me.

I took 3 Urelle tablets yesterday hoping they would help my flare to calm down (one after each meal). I was actually feeling a lot better yesterday morning but decided to take the Urelle and drink lots of water and carefully watch what I ate/drank. I woke up this morning with bad pressure and feeling of urgency and burning. I didn't have the burning yesterday, this is a new symptom! I'm actually worse today than yesterday. I've decided not to take Urelle again. I'm newly diagnosed - one week ago today - and have learned this is definitely a trial and error thing and everyone is different. What works for one person, may not work for others.
