Hmmm..they just upped my dosage to 20mgs/day. I actually feel very upbeat and good, despite my pain. I'm almost hyper. (although I still take my 3-4 hour naps in the afternoon.) Oh well, I know about kids...They just don't know what these things do to developing brains and to prescibe them usually screws the kid up worse. (I've seen it many times in my teaching career) My oldest daughter isgoing through some terrible lows in her moods and my husband thought, since they work for me, mayber she should have something. I told him absolutely no way. Not until she is at least 18 and even then it's questionable. My friend's daughter is absolutely bi-polar and started onthese meds at 12.

Anyway....I think as adults, for the most part, we are ok, although many have terrible side effects....I've done fine on Lexapro...waiting to see if this new dose ups my wieght. right now, I canonly blame my wieght gain on being a pig and eating what I shouldn't/////I don't eat much but my choices have been poor lately...gotta get back on track.

Yeah...I just looked it up on the web and it is not the same drug. Zyprexa is used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, not depression. I think if you are taking lexapro you are fine. Had me worried for a moment because I have diabetes!!!!

Zyprexa and lexapro are definitely not the same med. The title of this post should be changed.

Zyprexa is an antipsychotic that is used in treating many disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, severe OCD, treatment-resistant depression, and others.

I work in psychiatry and the info about zyprexa and diabetes is very complicated and not proven. All of the drugs in zyprexa's class carry the same labeled warning about diabetes.

Lawyers that put out commericals like that can't be any good, they are like ambulance chasers. I hate how they advertise like that b/c it is scary for people. I think it is very irresponsible. What if someone with schizophrenia sees that commercial and then stops his/her meds and then gets psychotic and relapses? The best place to get info is from the doctor that prescribed the meds, not lawyers.

Getting off my soapbox now.

I've just been prescribed Lexapro 10 mg by an Internist. I've seen two urologist's who have only treated my symptoms with anti-biotics. I've just realized that my UTI's may have been a secondary effect of the burning/acid urine. I quit taking antibiotics as the side effects were worse than the burning. I've had recent success with baking soda/prelief, the most I've had since the beginning.

So I went to the dr because I feel so damn tired. She thinks Lexapro will help. I'm not sure if she is prescribing it to help me deal with the long term pain/lifestyle issues or if it will help with the burning or if she thinks I am really depressed. I really didn't think I was until she gave me her treatment plan.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I will try anything if I feel it will make a positive change but I won't endure anymore intrusive diagnostic testing. Tia2

It "sounds like" she may think you are depressed ---- since you mentioned feeling so tired? Usually the tricyclic antidepressants are prescribed for IC, so she probably did prescribe Lexapro (SSRI) for depression. Could you call and ask her?

I went on Lexapro for anxiety and depression and have been VERY helped by it emotionally. AND I got a side effect I hadn't even counted on - a good one ----------- it helped my IC. I think my anxiety was making the IC worse.

I hope the Lexapro helps you, also. :)

Thanks Kim. She said I might be dealing with several health problems so maybe depression is fueling the IC. Tia2

Hi Tiia2

Yessiree BOB...I'd say she thinks she you are depressed. Usually other meds are prescribed for pain...like someone else said. And if it's any consolation, you are not alone in being depressed. I fought the depression monster for months at the beginning of my illness. There were times when i thought I was going to just take all my morphine in one gulp and be done with it. I lost my job, intimacy with my husband, ability to work with my kids (I could love 'em but didn't have the energy to discipline them) However,I knew it would be unfair to everyone if Idid that. So, I've been to physical therapy, pain doctors, and tried spinal blocks, different meds, and I am now scheduled for a nuerotransmittor surgery.

You are doing good to take the step to work on depression. As long as you are depressed, you can't move on. BTW..my doc just had to up mine to 20mgs...which is still a low dose. 10 mgs is a very low dose. And, it can have a helpful effect on pain, because when your mood is better, you seemto feel physically better. It's not THE answer but can help.

have a good day...:)

Thanks Tracy. What is ironic is that a year ago I would agree that I was a basket case but I have been feeling so much better this year.

I am worried about side effects as the long term antibiotic use caused so many other health problems. Take care, Tia2
