View Full Version : Why do people do this to animals?

I just saw something that is so horrifying and graphic and I can't believe that this goes on. I have donated to Humane Society of the US and Sea Shepherd. The video is so terrible to watch, but I watched it anyways. I didn't turn on the volume. I just can't believe people can be so cruel to animals and laugh at them as they are in pain. Which brings me to Michael Vick. In my opinion, I truly don't think he deserves to play NFL again. I don't think he's sorry at all. I think he's sorry for getting caught. There is a cause page on facebook called "Dog Lovers against Michael Vick." It does have a lot of members. People think I am insane that I care about animals. But animals deserve to be treated kindly too, right? I care about people too not just animals. From what goes on in Canada, to what goes on in China, Japan, and Korea, and here in the US it's just amazing how much these animals are treated. I guess people get a laugh out of seeing animals suffer. I have one word to describe them which I won't say here. But after seeing that video, I'm having nightmares. I want to help all these animals, but I'm not God. I do feel hopeless, but I can't help them at all. I just hope that the people who treat animals cruelly learn that its wrong, but they probably won't. I'm seriously thinking about working with HSUS or at a vet. Anything that would help animals. So since its Friday, generally I'm sad. It really is terrible that I have no one. It really is sad not having friends to hang out with, and afraid of getting hurt. I have had friends in the past but they were truly mean and cruel to me which I never will understand why they do that. I have asked them what is their issue, and they deny it and blame me. Ok so blame me for YOU being mean to me?? That makes no sense at all. I hate it when people invite me to certain functions, then ignore me. So office parties are out, because its all about gossip and mingling which I hate. Family parties are hard too, because I feel left out. Which brings me to this. I believe some members of my family wishes I was never born. I just feel that way, but if I confronted those people, they will probably deny it.:(

Without getting political and whatnot, I believe people who have served their sentence deserve a 2nd chance. If it werent for 2nd chances none of us would be worthy. We all make mistakes in one capacity or the other and regardless of our mistake(s) we're all punished either by the justice system or personally by our peers.
Re: Michael Vick, this is the price we pay for living in a free-market economy..there is still money to be made from Mr. Vick so someone is going to hire him. If people werent given 2nd chances imagine how long the lines would be at the local welfare offices.

Just an opinion, and everybody has one.

scary enough people are flat out cruel. I think there are instances where people should get a second chance, however, murders, raperists, pedaphiles, and several other crimes should not be given the time of day.

I don't have any answers for you Anna. Why some people choose to do cruel acts is a total mystery to me. I wish it wasn't so!

I think it's great that you are thinking about working at HSUS or a vet. It is unfortunate that not all animals are treated well, but please remember there is no way you can save all of them! But doing your little part is helping, and I think it's amazing you want to get involved with something you are passionate about. A person here and a person there joining in to help animals will make a bigger difference in the end than you can make alone. If you think about all the mistreated animals in the world it would be easy to feel very defeated, so instead try thinking about all the things that are being done to help others and how you are helping; I hope that can make you feel better.

Also, it is also unfortunate that some are cruel. But you love animals and a lot of other people do too. Have you thought about volunteering at the humane society or similar organization? Then you can get involved and meet other people who are interested in the same thing as you. There may be other animal rescue volunteer organizations in your community too you could get involved with too. As for getting hurt, you just have to get back in there and hopefully already knowing you have something in common with everyone else will help you feel more comfortable. Good luck!

I really considering working at my vet on weekends if they are hiring, or any vet that is near by. Just to be around animals and care for them makes me feel good. Of course I'm boycotting Canada and China, two of the most hated countries for me. After seeing the footages of the animals being brutally abused from Canada and China, I was disguisted. How can a human being do that? I don't think people who abuse animals are humans, but just pure evil. Of course I didn't watch the Bejing Olympics and I won't watch Vancouver Olympics either. I don't go to restaurants that serve Canadian seafoods, and don't eat Chinese foods and try and not buy anything made in China. What's bad is that I work really close by the Canadian Embassy. So I'm out there at the rallies by the Canadian Embassy with hundreds of other animal lovers. I was out there when it was cold and rainy but that didn't stop me nor others.

Oh those commercials are so sad! I have to change the channel. :(
I agree with you about Vick. To me he is a murderer for what he did to those dogs. I think the people deserve a second chance too, but animal cruelty makes me sick. I was hoping no NFL team would want to pick him up (there was some talk about the Steelers possibly going to get him, but I knew the Rooneys don't deal with people like that so I knew there was no way). It just makes me mad that someone who did that can still go back to the NFL and make millions of dollars. Let him have to go back to menial jobs like most other people that have "served their time" and have to work up to something better like they do (I do really respect people that do that and turn their lives around, btw - I always think of Judge Mathis - I love the judge shows lol).

Anna, good for you for standing up for what you believe in. I tried boycotting China before because of animal cruelty, but it's so hard because everything is made there! I think it's great that you want to work with animals. Do you have pets? My cats really help with my self-esteem - no matter what other people say/do they still love me (and for those of you who aren't cat people, YES they really do lol...I raised two of them since they were 2 weeks old, so I'm mommy lol).

I am sorry you are having such a hard time right now, I have been there believe me. I think it would be great idea to start getting involved in an animal rights type organization it would help you express your beliefs, make a difference and provide you with an oppertunity to meet some new potential friends who you have something in common with. Personally I try to make a difference in small acts such as refraining from buying any products tested on animals, adopting a rescue dog as our family pet etc...

I always look at labels to see if they aren't tested on animals. I use cosmetics that are completely vegan. How does one who have IC be a vegan when soy is a problem? I tried drinking soy milk and I got so sick. About animals, I take my dog once a year to have him be blessed by a priest on Blessing of the Animals.
