Hi everyone,

To try to make this as short as possible. I had my 2nd hydro on Monday April 12th. The Dr. told me that my IC had advanced since a year ago now being very very chronic. After my procedure I woke up to the horrible pain that we all get when we wake up like we have died and gone to hell........sorry not sure how else to explain it. I was sent home after a couple hours and I did ok did have a hard time going to the bathroom a little bit but my Dr. did not just 2 distentions he did 3 where it made the bladder lining bleed.
So anyways, by wednesday I started really cramping and having a terrible time going to the bathroom. I would feel it start then it would just stop! I sat there for hours trying to figure out the problem. By wednesday afternoon I was able to go at times but barely. Wednesday night I wasnt able to go at all not even when I got up in the middle of the night like a normal IC'er does a million times. By Thursday morning I felt terrible cramping, spasms, and PAIN in my bladder and tried and tried to go to the bathroom but wasnt happening. So.................went to ER and they of course put a catherer in (UGH) and drained 600cc's out and I had a very severe UTI, and major bleeding! No wonder I couldnt go to the bathroom. So now I have been set back a few days still hurting alot kind of feels like tuesday to me instead of friday after the procedure.
I was just curious if anyone had ever had this type of problem and if anyone knows why this happens????
I am going OK now by myself but it is really not wanting to do what it is supposed to but i am making it!!! They wanted to leave the Catheter in but I said no way I didnt want to let my bladder be lazy then have a chance of it not working again on its own.
Any ideas would be helpful and really curious if anyone ever has gone through the same thing?
Thanks for any responses:)
Hope you all are pain free:kiss:

Hi Kimberly,

I'm so sorry to hear you've had such problems :grouphug:

Any time anything is put up into your urethra (a catheter, a cystoscope, etc) you run the risk of developing a UTI. Even if you are given antibiotics after, you can get a UTI if the bacteria that takes up residence in your bladder is not sensitive to the particular antibiotic prescribed. It's fairly common, unfortunately! In addition, sometimes you can retain urine (which sounds like what happened to you) after these procedures because there is so much inflammation, and that can contribute to infections.

I really hope you feel better soon, and I'm sorry you had so much trouble.

Hey Kim, I wanted to let you know that you are not alone. When I have my Cystoscopy and hydrodistention. Three days after mine I was feeling so horrible. My urologist put me in the hospital over night due to an infection I got. They put an IV and I had to have a Catherer for about 20 hours. It hurt so much. I hope you feel better..Kim..your welcome to email me at kiyokafett@yahoo.com.

Love,

Yup, I got a UTI after my cysto w/ hydro, too. I even took an antibiotic for 3 days after the procedure and STILL developed a UTI. It is very common after that procedure.

Hope you feel better soon!!! :)

retaining is definatly the pits...and boy did you retain a lot. It drives me nuts when I am like that.

I take a lot of calcium and try to relax as much as I can while alternating between heat and cold at my bladder....to bring the inflammation down.....and for me that always makes the retention short.....I hope you don't have that again.

Best Wishes.

Hi Kimberly
Sorry you've had such a rough time. I have always had problems peeing after a hydro and I always end up staying in hospital overnight with a catheter in as whenever they try and take it out I go into retention (no infection though). The last time I was in (I've had 6 hydros) they sent me home with a catheter in but I was in so much pain from it they'll have to think of something else next time.
Hope you're feeling better now
Love Angie

Thanks so much for all your replies it is so nice to know that we have a place like ICN to come to and talk about things like this that we really CANT in OUR lives today. People just dont understand this disease unless they live it.
I am doing better but boy it is so slow. I was hoping to get back to work today (monday) but I am still in way too much pain. Hoping to get back on Wednesday for a half day and go from there.
I know though that I am on the road to recovery things are finally working on their own just had to get the inflammation down I guess.
I thank you all again for your support!!!!
Kim:thumbsup:
