View Full Version : infection after installation
Do most of you take an antibiotic following installations as a precaution against getting an infection. I was doing this and my doctor convinced me it was unnecessary and I just came down with a staph UTI infection.

Any time you are cathed, it can introduce bacteria into the bladder. It's a good idea to take an antibiotic after the instill if possible...

Sorry you are dealing with a UTI... I'm dealing with one right now too-- won't know what kind it is until the culture comes back on Monday. For now, I'm taking Levaquin....

Yes, I just had a cysto done a few weeks ago and I was on an antibiotic during the procedure. I still developed a different strain of bacteria in my bladder. I was given Cipro which did the trick. Hope you are feeling well.....

No, I did not take an antibiotic for any installations. Yes, you are prone to one everytime you are catheredized but I personnally would not want to take an antibiotic everytime. I did ask my doctor if I could have one on hand just in case and he had no problem with that.
Hope you are feeling better soon.
