There are some pharmaceutical companies that offer free medications to low-income families. They require a doctor's consent and proof of your financial status. Depending on what your insurance covers, you may be able to apply. A few companies even allow family incomes as high as $40,000 annually (offset by expenses, of course).

Maryland residents who need free medications can receive assistance in obtaining them. MEDBANK of Maryland, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to provide access to prescription medications for chronically ill, low-income, underinsured/uninsured Maryland residents. MEDBANK assists healthcare providers and patients in completing the paperwork required to enroll patients in Pharmaceutical Company Patient Assistance Programs. my aunt has some numbers from places she gets discounts and all type of free medicine from. (each number does diff meds for her) i ment to get them today when i was talking to her but I forgot but will call her back to get them.

As for these site. I've never used any of them but tried to check them out as well as i could. Like looking to make sure they don't have anything against them in the bbb website.

Anytime any of you decide to uses these site please do your own reseach by checking threw the b.b.b. just in case something new has came against one of these companies.
this thread was back in April of this year so I really would recheck them before i used them.
I'm just happy if just one of these sites help one person it makes all the work worth wild to me.
I've gotten behind when i got so ill, but i'm doing much better and with Christmas coming up they should be updateing there sites soon with funds I will be on the look out to see If i can find some updates so you all will know who has funds and who doesn't
just plz remember to check them out before using them.

I have also found needymeds.com to be SO helpful. very easy to use site and informative.

For the person who asked, there is a link there that will say "first time users click here" just click on that, it should explain things. Basically you can look up the drug by brand name or generic, then click on it and it will give you the instructions about how to download the application and what the requirements are.

The only bad thing I've found, is most of these programs will only send the drugs to the prescribing dr. Well, I'm in a study at a hospital 75 miles away. I dont know if my local dr will prescribe what I need (and thus, more office calls, of which of course I have no insurace to cover!) ugh.

My aunt doesn't have to see her doctor when she goes pick up her medicine all she has to do is go in and tell them her name and the medicine she is there to pick up. That way there is no ex. charge to her.
Janice could you call and ask your dr. office if you could do that without seeing the doctor each time you go in? that way all your doing is running in to get your medicine.
If the doctor will order it sometimes the drug companies will fed ex or UPS your medicine to your home. then all you have to do is show your I.D and sign for it.
I would call your dr. office and see how they can help you with this.
I hope it all works out for the best so you can get your medicine without having to pay to see you doctor each time.

Which honestly it doesn't seem like you would have to see your doctor each time to just pick up your medicine unless you need a new RX or you are sick for some reason and its a must see visit.
I'm still waiting to get those numbers she has so i can post them. She was sick today when i called her so i didn't even ask her for them, but once she is feeling better I will get them. I PROMISE.
she told me each number she has. (about six or seven of them) helps her with diff. meds she either gets them free or at a very low discount price. she doesn't have no RX coverage, but yet she gets ssd and draws off her late husband and isn't hurting for money either. (i wish we all could say that LOL) so I do believe if they help her they will help many of us others out here without drug coverage. I know she makes over the limit for most of the drug companies I find on line so i believe once i can get those number from her it will help many many people here.

Hi Rhonda, well for me its more about getting them to prescribe it in the first place, I don't think the picking up part will be an issue. But I don't know if I will have to come in for more office calls, just to get the stuff prescribed for me is what I meant, and then who knows, sometimes you have to switch meds/med combinations. . I'll have to see.

I guess the important part is getting the medications, LOL!

I just posted a new thred that has about seven diff. toll free numbers that will help people with there medicine each number helps with diff types of meds and they go by your income on how much you have to pay if any thing.

Hello Everyone,

I just now joined this wonderful forum which I found on a Yahoo search a few days ago. This looks like a great forum with lots of useful information. Thanks to the people who are posting here about how to get some free/lower cost medications, I can surely use it for my asthma meds at least which I have to pay with hardly any money. I will indeed be checking these fine sites out and see if any will be of assistance to that and any other future medications. I do receive my Depakote ER (Time Released Meds for Bipolar Disorder), Free from the pharmaceutical company luckily they send that free to my psychiatrist which I do receive a three month's supply at no cost at all to me. Lots of psych medications are free through the pharmaceutical companies, IF you request it from your psychiatrist and ask them about it, fill out a form and fax it or send it to the pharmaceutical company. The doctors do not mention anything about that, unless people ask them about it. One of my psych meds is not included free, so that I have to pay for. Maybe one of these sources will help cover the costs as I have no real income.

Yes, psychiatrists are super at giving out samples if they are available as the pharmaceutical companies hand them out. Right away before you run out of insurance, explain that to the doctors and ask them to check which of your psych meds are free through your pharmaceutical companies (some are and some are not), then fill out the forms and send them through. It depends on your amount of income and you have to show proof that you have applied for Social Security Disability and got turned down so you'll need to save that decision of denial for. When and if they ask if you filled out for Medicare as they will, say yes you did that when you applied for Social Security Disability. Now if you haven't filed for Disability yet, you may have to I do not know. That's up to you and your case. If you receive Disability, then I do not know if you still will receive it. I know people who still get the meds from their doctors, maybe at a reduced rate. Also remember if you are low income and have under $2,000 in assets, then apply for Medical Assistance as you may qualify then. That would probably cover most doctor/hospital visits as well as most or some prescriptions.
