I have recently changed Uro. and I just found out today that she wants me to have a pelvic ultrasound done. I have a interstim and I am kinda of wondering in the ultrasound will be okay with that. I have had it since 2001. I am also wondering why she might want to do this? Maybe some of you guys would know and why you might have had to have one. thanks:dogrun:

Hi there :)

Let's see... your Interstim should be fine during the ultrasound; the high-frequency sound waves used will not damage it. Just let the technician know you've got it in there so it can be noted in your chart.

As for why you are having it, I can't tell you for sure. However, ultrasounds are great for looking at things that are fluid-filled or hollow, so they are good for imaging organs like the bladder and uterus. Also, ultrasounds are good for looking for cysts, as cysts are fluid-filled. Generally, they are the quickest way to get a good overall picture of what is going on in the female pelvis.

I hope I've helped :)

Hugs,
Jen

Oops, they're also good for imaging the male prostate/bladder... so if you're a guy I didn't mean to offend you by saying an ultrasound was a "female" thing :)

Sorry-- I took pain pills and I'm not as sharp as usual today

More hugs,

Jen
