OK so after a year and 5 doctors begging me, I am finally going to go get the Lupron (or a generic one) shot today. I have endo and they all think some are sitting on my bladder and causing my IC to be worse. I am terrified - can anyone answer any of my questions?
1. Am I going to go crazy?
2. Am I going to grow a beard?
3. Can I still exercise and go to the beach?
4. Am I going to get fat?
5. Can you have an immediate allergic reaction and die?
6. AGHHH I'm only 33, so scared, but all the docs just laugh at me and say its no big deal, that people beg them for more Lupron.
Thank you!

Beard no...but a little mustache ....not usually too noticeable may happen.
Crazy-individual. Most definately un natural metapause is worse than a natural one so if the natural way isn't good than don't expect it to be easy....but that doesn't mean it won't be bareable especially if you are prepared.
I don't think I gained any weight...but than I was too sick to notice.
5. well I would guess anything is possible but I would think winning the lottery would be possible too.
6. I did Lupron in my early 20's....and well ya...Lupron was better than endo...which was a hormonal mess too just included a lot of pain and even worse fatigue for me.....it depends on your endo I guess. There is a one month version incase you are scared you can't take it... at least it will only be a month.
problem...no one wants to be in metapause forever...so how long do we do this. Does your doctor seriously think you will be cleansed of endo by the Lupron....I hope you get that reaction since that isn't always the case. So if you still have any endo symptoms while on Lupron you be sure to not believe the doctor if says anything like, "not possible".
a few extra things...endo can be not just on but in the bladder...have they looked there?
How many laps have you had so far? I may not have all the answers but I suspect someone here may find the answers to those questions helpful too. :grouphug:
So it is around 5:30 my time...I suspect you have had the shot ....I hope it works out for you!!!

Hello
Thank you for all of your help! My gyno actually wanted me to do that Merina IUD first so that my body would adjust to the hormone issue better, and give me Lupron in a couple of weeks. Well that was an experiment in terror. I cramped up so horribly and it didn't go away for an hour so she had to take the IUD out. Ugh.
So I'm trying ONE more pill, Seasonique, before my Lupron expires on Aug 26, which I will now refer to as D-Day. If the Seasonique doesn't work, I will have to take the Lupron. Luckily it is just for a month so if I turn into a sweaty depressed maniac it will go away.
I will of course keep everyone updated!

Don't take Lupron. I had 1 shot and it sent me in to Early medapause and I am only 30 years old. I had medapause when I was 28 years old!
Thanks to that dumb shot I have vulvadenia.
Think before you get it. Do your research!
Trust I know.

Okay, wanted to say good luck and feel better.
1. Am I going to go crazy? No, but you will have mood swings that might make you feel like going crazy. This will take a week to a few weeks to kick in. Talk to your doctor about monitoring your mood swings with an antidepressant, or anxiety medication
2. Am I going to grow a beard? You will not grow a beard or facial hair or have the deepening of the voice. This drug is not like that.
3. Can I still exercise and go to the beach? Yes you can. Being put into menopause does not affect being able to exercise. Look at my 44 year old mother. She's in menopause and a walking-talking execise machine.
4. Am I going to get fat? Between the medications I'm on and being in menopause, I did gain about 10 minutes. Watch what you eat and exercise accordingly.
5. Can you have an immediate allergic reaction and die? No, you will not die. There are not many serious side effects to this druge. Side affects do include: osteoporosis( talk to you doctor about add-back therapy and taking calcium supplemnts. Dont' forget to exercise), vaginal dryness (talk to you doctor so your vaginal walls dont' become dry and recede, like mine did), hot flashes, and mood swings.
6. AGHHH I'm only 33, so scared, but all the docs just laugh at me and say its no big deal, that people beg them for more Lupron. I was 19 when I was put on this shot. I will NOT do it again because of the difficulty my body had accepting this drug. However, it did provide me with much needed relief from the endometriosis. I also developed vulvodynia because of this drug, too.
Good luck. If you have any questions, let me know.
Also, have you asked to do a laparoscopy. There are other alternatives, such as the minimally invasiv surgery, continuous birth control, etc. If you feel this uncomfortable after talking to you doctor, don't do it.
