I heard it from a gal on another support group, and just called and confirmed with my mom (who is a pharmacist). Arghhh! That was the only analgesic available in Canada. :(

Anyway, just thought I would post this in case other Canadians use a lot of pyridium. Now's the time to get a prescription and stock up! The drug stores may still have some in stock.

I just filled mine, and was told to consult my doctor, the manufacturer has discontinued pyridum.

What about the over the counter version? Azo?

Oh man. Why would they do that?

I am still awaiting diagnosis, but am currently using pyridium for bad days.

Can anyone tell me, is the AZO/generic drugstore (i.e. RiteAid) version you can buy over the counter in the States identical to the prescription one in Canada? Am wondering if I can order online.

Thanks.

There are several different brand names for the drug Phenazopyridine (Azo-Gesic, Azo-Standard, Baridium, Phenazo, Prodium, Pyridiate, Pyridium, Re-Azo, Uricalm, Uristat) - is it possible that one of the manufacturers has discontinued their brand - but other brands of this drug may still be available?

I JUST called my pharmacist b/c I have heard numerous reports of this too, for almost a year actually...My GP gave me a standing prescription back in May 2009 and I had one refill done, and they said IT IS being discontinued :o( :o(
I live in Nova Scotia, and the pharmacist at our drugstore said they will have no replacement generic or otherwise as a urinary analgesic or anything equivalent...
Apparently the manufacturer told the pharmacist when she called that they can no longer acquire the raw ingredient(s) that make the medication work in the way that it does, so this kind of sucks!
Tylenol 3 it is, I guess!
