Surgery has been canceled

Hi everyone.The surgery has been cancelled for my mom's botox injection and boy are we fumed!!!! She was at her urologist's office last wednesday.She checked her urine and showed that she had a little infection but it was not uncomman for ic patients.WELL!!! She did not tell us that she was sending my mom's urine off for a culture because otherwise I would I have called back within the next two days to find out the results.Well yesterday evening the receptionists called back saying that she had bad news.And the bad news was that my mom has bacteria in her urine and that she cannot have the surgery today!!! I was fumed because the dr did not mention sending her urine off for a culture.I am glad that she did.But my point is that the NURSES are so lousy with getting back in touch with you when the cultures do come in until it is ridculous!!:mad: :cussing: They should have called us back friday and let us known that she had a bacteria infection then!!!! By now she could have been taking on the antibiotics and she could have had the surgery today !!:mad: I tell ya people need to do their jobs when it comes to playing with your health!!! Lord knows if I would have known that it was going off for a culture that I would have been on them like white on rice because she needed for to be treated for the infection that way she could have had the surgery today.I could just scream!!! I had to calm my poor mother down yesterday after I had gotten the news from the office.She was so disaapointed and upset.It took forever for me to get her calm.Now we are awaiting a new date for the botox:mad:
Sorry for the long post but just had to vent and give an update.I was to upset to type this late yesterday after we had gotten the call.

thank you for the update. i'm sorry they did this to you. sometimes the labs the dr office has to send the urine to gets behind they may have not got the results back until yesterday the only reason i say this is because i'm prone to uti and my uro ALWAYS send my off i can call them everyday it normally take two to three days to come back but there been a few times its taking a week to come back my uro tho ALWAYS goes ahead and start me on Leviquin just in case thing.
I pray her infection clear ups soon i know how painful a uti can be on top of ic that is like adding gas to an aready lite fire.

I am so sorry about your mom's surgery being cancelled. It is usually customary for a doctor to do a urine culture before every procedure. I know I always have to have a culture done before I can have the Botox treatments.

Hope the uti clears up and your mom gets to have the procedure done soon.

Thank you guys for your support.I understand what you are saying when you mean that the dr is suppose to do a urine check before you have surgery.That is not what is troubling me.What is really P**** me off is that normally the dr tell us that she is going to send off a culture or not.So when she said that mom had a little inffection but not enough to be put on antibiotics because it was comman with people that have ic than we dropped it and the urologists did not speak on it anymore nor did she tell us that I am going to send this off for a culture since she is scheduled to have the botox in one week.See she has totally changed her staff around about a year ago and the other nurses that she had were very prompt about calling you when a culture comes back.Which is normally 2 days.These nurses that she have now are very young and they just play around to much in my opinion.I have honestly had to make a personal trip down there after 2 days to get her results because the nurses that she has now will NOT return your phone calls when your results come in.They call when they want to which is about a week or two later.:cussing: So I pretty much know the routine as far as when the cultures are suppose to be back.It is just that the nurses will not do their job about calling you back.I have to get on their A**all of the time when I KNOW that a culture has been sent off.I always give them two days.Then afterwards I call them.Than as usual I will not get a call back so I have to drive down there to get her results!!!!:cussing: I just feel like that if we were told that her urine was being sent off than I could have done my part as usual with staying on their butts about giving me the results and mom would have had her antibiotics last friday and by now she could have had the botox done today.I feel as though as if this is pure negligence and I am tired of her staff treating patients this way.Now the receptionistis called back this morning and says that she does not know WHEN she is going to be able to have the botox done because her urologists is BOOKED with other outpatient procedures.Well I feel like that d*** IT! If you all would have done your job than she would have had it done today.She is working on trying to get her in as soon as she can but does not know when.All because the nurses screwed up!!!:cussing: So now my mom has to take a back seat all because the nurses did not do their job about calling back when they should have!! The nurse even admitted it to me yesterday that the culture results were in friday!!! I am going to speak with the dr about her staff because they are totally negligent and people should not have to suffer just becuase they are not doing their job!!! I am so sick of this and unfortunately this is the only dr in my city that deals with ic and that does all of the ic treatments.I am just so angry and disgusted!

I am sorry about all of this. I understand your frustration, but at least they caught this before the surgery. It is possible even with the start of the antibiotics last week, they may have still wanted to wait to make sure it was completely gone before they did the procedure.

Hopefully everything will get cleared up and she can get the treatment soon.:kiss:
