Yesterday I saw a new urologist. He did something called "dilation" or "bladder massage." That hurt like crazy! :headbang: I just has the exam from hell! :yikes: Suppossedly I was given a local anesthetic but I sure couldn't tell! The purpose of this "torture" was to improve my problem with urinary retention.

The doctor also gave me "Celebrex" as an anti-inflammatory and "Bactrim" as an antibiotic. Next Wednesday, I'm scheduled for a pelvic MRI. After that I may have a cysto/hydro, biofeedback for the pelvic muscles and maybe instillations of Elmiron.

Hopefully I'll finally start to improve! I pray that I'll be in reasonable shape for my brother's wedding next year!

Sounds like you're on the right road. Urethal dialation is done sometimes. Some docs think it helps empty the bladder better. You'll be feeling better before you know it. I suggest you try the diet too, many of us feel it really really helps.:D  Kathi

I had urethral dilation done under anesthesia (along with a cysto) I had previously had urethral dilation w/o anesthesia and I couldn't tolerate the pain. One of my major symptoms is urethral discomfort and flaring. The Celebrex has been the one med I won't give up... it kicked in after about 5-6 days and I haven't been off it yet. (along with Elmiron and atarax). Hope you are feeling better.

Urethral dilation just sounds really painful, and I hope you feel better soon! I also hope that it helps you out some.
