Can someone tell me what the standard dose of valium is for these suppositories? Also is there something I could print out for my dr. about them?

Hi Charisse,

I just picked mine up yesterday. My doctor prescribed a 10mg suppository of Diazepam.

as far as I know they come in 5mg or 10 mg dosage. I am on 5mg, but many patients are on 10 mg, depending on how bad your spasm feels.

My insurance doesn't cover anything that is compounded. So my do gives me 2mg valium tablets that I can insert into my vagina. Insurance will cover actual valium tablets. Sometimes if I my pelvic floor is really spasming I may use 2 pills.

But they work.

My uro gives me scripts and they have to be compounded. I told him how to write it out and he wrote it for 10mg valium and 500mgs of boric acid because I get yeast infections pretty bad and the boric acid is to try to help me keep from getting them from all the moisture that the sups make.

I pay $10 a month for 60 and do 2 per day. I always lay down when I do them too, it helps to keep them from running out.

But they have been a Godsend for me. I have spasms really bad.

i am very worried at this point...i just tried the valium suppositories about 30 min ago. when i first put it in it felt uncomfortable and as time went on it caused bladder pain. i decided to follow my dr's instructions and waited 30 min for it to dissolve. I felt something dripping "down there" and my bladder was in so much pain. i went to the bathroom and i am bleeding!!! a lot!!! i called my dr but of course she is away and i dont want to call the emergency line because all the other urologist are old men who dont know a thing about ic. i left her a message anyway. is this normal? i am in a lot of bladder pain...has anyone else had this issue??? obviously if it get worse or unbearable i will go to the ER. i do not get my period so i know its not menstrual issues. any info is appreciated. Thanks!!! :help:

Jenn,

No that has never happened to me and because it is a holiday weekend, I think I would go to the er.

It could be something unrelated to the suppositories, that just happened unrelated to them? so you might want to get it checked out.

keep us posted.

i am still in a bladder flare, but the bleeding stopped after a few hours. if it continued i was going to go to the ER. I am going to call Dr moldwin on tuesday. i usually see his nurse pract, but she is on vaca. I will keep you posted. The only reason i think it might be the suppositories is because as soon as i put it in my bladder started to bother me. i am not going to use it again until i talk to a dr. Thanks for the reply!!!

Maybe it is what the valium is mixed with that you are alergic to? I use 10mg vlium and don't know what they are mixed with but they always make me feel better and I usually driff off to sleep.

God Bless and good luck.

Maybe sitting in a baking soda bath or oatmeal bath might help in the meantime. I also use an ice pack on my tummy. It helps also or you could use heat. If you have a water bottle maybe spraying it directly into your vagina might take the irratant away. Be very gentle when or if you do this. Don't want to wake the sleeping monster any more :-))

dr moldwin said theres no way it was related and it could not have caused the bleeding...i tried using it again (3 times now) and it still hurts my bladder while its in, but once it dissolves my muscles are relaxed and i feel like my bladder has less pressure. although i feel like i am peeing A LOT more, like i am so relaxed that i cant hold a drop of pee. anyone else feel like this? thanks for your help!!!

I am also using them (5mg only) at the night time and I also have the feeling that I have to go more often....

on top, they seem to somehow irritate my bladder... I had to stop them for a procedure which is done tomorrow and since them I think I feel BETTER - strange enough....

I will check with my dr. before I go back on them if she thinks it is possible that they have a negative effect.

Glad you did not end up in the ER!!!!

yeah i do think they can bother the bladder, but they do relax my muscles which helps my pfd...its a catch 22 i guess...my dr is back from vaca today so i am hoping she will call and let me know if she thinks i should continue on them. i also think that they prevent me from sleeping well. i wake up a few times a night to pee, but also just because i am restless which started when i started using the valium suppositories.

I am sorry that so many of you seem to not be able to tolerate the valium suppositories. I have the 10mg ones and they always calm down my pain and usually put me to sleep. Maybe stronger ones would be better or what ever the glycerin has in it could be the problem.

God Bless and keep you strong.

My uro just gave me regular valium tablets to insert like a suppository. I thought he was nuts, but boy they really work. Turns out I've had a UTI for a few weeks and didn't know it and I was so tender "down there" it was hard to sit down.

Maybe it's something that they mix the vallium with that's bothering you guys??? I take these at night and they seem to help me a great deal-I drift right off to sleep. the only issues I've had with them are vaginal irratation after using them for more than a few days in a row, and I have noticed that my bowls are more frequent, but not my urination.

I don't believe my insurance will cover the suppositories either. Got them last night used it. Worked great. Was worth every penny. It is worth any amount of money to have an intimate relationship with my husband of 20 years. He has always been loving and patient and especially through all of this. I was only diagnosed about a month ago and I had been blaming him for "giving me something". Now we are finally able to be a couple on some level again. Mg was only 5 mg.

Jennybird,

You say they make your bowels move more? I have IBS constipation and I am thinking they are slowing my bowels to a complete stop. I use miralax daily but finally used a laxative and that helped some. Anyone else have the problem with them slowing your system too much. I just started using them and mine are 10mg. I think I will use them less often and just use my oral valium, I don't want to completely stop because it does help my PFD a lot.
