I had a cysto (under general) last week - and was told it my bladder looked normal. I asked my gyno if it was done with hydrodistension - and he said that is was - that my bladder was filled with saline because it's the only way you can see in there. I'm confused now - how can you have a cysto without the hydrodistension then?
Thanks

There's a difference between filling the bladder with saline to look at it and stretching the bladder - hydrodistention (sometimes called over distention). When the bladder is empty it collapses, kind of like a balloon, and the water is put in so it won't be flat.
When I have a hydrodistention, I can see the large containers of fluid hung up high so the weight of the water flowing into my bladder will actually distend (stretch) it.
And yes, you can have a cysto without a hydrodistention.
