My bladder is causing me to lose sleep. The 3 rescue instill I have had helped with the burning but not the constant "gotta go" feeling. This is causing me only to be able to get 3-4 hours of sleep many nights. Other than depriving myself of liquids after 8pm; what are some IC friendly meds to help alleviate this problem and help me get the sleep I so desperately need? Anyn tips would be greatly apprecaited. Thanks in advance.

Amitryptiline (brand name = Elavil) is a medicine that helps many IC patients with sleep, pain, and frequency. When I first got IC, I was voiding 60x a day, unable to sleep more than 20 minutes at a time. The first medicine I tried was Elavil & the very first night on it (only 10mg), I slept 4 hours & was so grateful I cried. Within a week, I was sleeping 6-7 hours a night. I now take 20mg a night & it still helps.

Atarax is an antihistamine that many IC patients find helpful with their bladder symptoms and sleep also.

Hope you find relief soon,

Another med that helps with IC and with sleep is Remeron. It's a tri cyclic anti depressant that greatly lessens my bladder urgency and knocks me out at night. It's a godsend for me.

It also knocks out all hot flashes, for your menopausal women out there.

Hope this helps. Many of the anti depressants, like Remeron, seem to do double duty; they lessen the histamine attack on the bladder, hence their sleepy making qualities, and they lessen the pain and so the frequency.

Just my two cents!
